Four Tet and UFO Ben DJ tour stopped by the Loft, at the Skyway Theatre, in Minneapolis last Thursday, May 19th. Typical of these DJ shows, lights were at bare minimum of deep dark red. This is understandable, as you’re probably too busy dancing to pay attention to the DJs pushing buttons... which is always not the most exciting thing to watch.
Originally the show poster also lists two additional local DJs, Centrific and Soulful Tryst, however I did not see either DJs.
Instead, UFO Ben (who is 1/3 of the DJs behind “The Hessle Audio”) did the majority of his three plus hours spinning and live mixing on his set of reggae, Bollywood, bass, loops, trance, etc. You can get a good idea of his style via Soundcloud.
UFO Ben kept the terrific crowd (a mixture of rave kids, modern hippies, and crusties) moving and dancing, particularly on the faster, upbeat tracks.
Sometime Four Tet (aka Kieran Hebden) would take over spinning in ten minute blocks, playing mixes of house music, hip hop, electronica, techno, and even a little jazz. Four Tet would actually just sit on stage (in the back), the whole time that UFO Ben was on stage.
At the merch table, there was a “Daze Fest” vendors, they were selling these custom enamel pins (everything from weird Hello Kitty to pro-Pot pins), which seemed really popular these ‘daze’.
The UFO Ben/Four Tet tour will end tomorrow (May 23rd) in Montreal, Canada at Piknic Electronik. After that, Four Tet continues with Anthony Naples or as solo DJ:
