The hits keeps on coming... we just learned that Prince’s protégé Vanity (real name Denise Katrina Matthews), singer of Vanity 6, has died today (Monday) from sclerosis encapsulating peritonitis (an inflammation of the small intestines). According to TMZ, who broke the story, she underwent daily dialysis treatments as a result of failed kidneys from a crack overdose in 1994.

Growing up in the 80s and listening to radio, I can tell you that the first time I heard “Nasty Girl” by Vanity 6, it was the raunchiest, nastiest song I’d ever heard (at that time). Maybe it was a special remix version, but all that moaning and grunting in the song made me blush! Yikes! Rest in peace, Vanity.
