Peaches Setlist
|
Peaches just played First Avenue in Minneapolis last night.
Grrrl Prty’s Shannon Blowtorchstarted the night off at exactly when doors opened up at the venue. She played to the crowd, so a healthy selection of electroclash songs. Unlike other DJs playing from the owner/director’s balcony, she was, instead, on the First Avenue stage... but behind her Apple laptop and in near darkness, with her trademark Grrrl Prty cap.
Last song on her DJ set was Le Tigre’s ‘Deceptacon’ (but slightly remixed for the dancefloor).
Deap Vally was next. You can’t tell by the picture of Lindsey Troy, but she’s wearing 100 dollar bills dress and with slight green hair. Obviously a nod to their song ‘Gonna Make My Own Money’.
Troy is joined on stage by a new drummer called Liv Marsico, who is currently stepping in for Julie Edwards, on maternity leave. Their first ever live show, and it’s a rocky start. Drum mic not working, Liv looking too intense at trying to time the beats, forgetting to sing on cue, etc. I’m sure by day two, things will work out.
We’ve been in love with Peaches since we first saw her perform as Peaches & Gonzales with Elastica in Sep 2000.
As soon as the duo listed as headliner at 7th Street Entry, we bought tickets. For a period of 2001 to 2003, we must’ve seen Peaches (with Gonzales and also solo) about four or five times... and the height of her appearance, she was the headliner at First Avenue with Har Mar Superstar as opener.
We’ve seen Peaches start off as a girl singing over her MiniDisc, so it’s quite a bit of a change to see her upgrade her new 2015 tour. To start off, she now has two additional dancers, who are often have their dance routine worked out to each song.
The dancers are also often in various NSFW costumes, including living giant pink vaginas or appearing as animals. It’s fun to watch these costume changes, especially as Peaches slowly strip from her man-muscle costume to wearing just a eye bikini at the end of her set.
Fans responded incredibly well to her biggest hit song ‘F*** the Pain Away’, which saw a bit of a revival appearing in 2013’s True Blood Season 6.
By the time the giant condom was brought out, it was almost over the top. Peaches sang inside the condom as fans held up the inflated plastic condom.
At the end of her set, Peaches brought out two Champaign bottles to celebrate her First Avenue Star. You earn a star when you play the main room a few times, so Peaches was clearly excited about getting her name painted on the building. Of course, the Champaign bottles proved harder to open and Peaches spent a hot minute just trying to open it. When she did pop it, in typical Peaches style, she ‘jizzed’ all over her fans in front.
Sure, Peaches hasn’t released a LP since 2000, but her latest album Rub (I U She Music), sounded as if she never left the music industry. It’s good to have Peaches back.
