With June here, let us reflect and look back at last month: May 2015.
With Star Wars Day (May 4th), Free Comic Book Day (May 2nd), two comic book conventions Wizard World (May 1-3) and MSP Comicon (May 16-17), the first half of May was all about comic books and pop culture. Looking back, I'd say that Wizard World Minneapolis deserved my award for most memorable award for May. In addition to the comics and celebrities, Wizard World brought us two concerts ... well one and a half, since the Pourhouse venue decided to shut down Peelander-Z's show!
Wizard already announced that their third Minneapolis show will take place May 6-8, 2016. In the meantime, Wizard World is taking place in Sacramento on June 19-21 and then in Albuquerque in June 24-26, 2015 (date was moved to avoid conflicts with Sacramento).
Anyway, midmonth brought us a couple of great shows in Minneapolis, including seeing a rare appearance by Stephin Merritt (he of the Magnetic Fields) playing the alphabet of all of his songs at the Cedar Cultural Center... and Freedy Johnston's epic two plus hour show at the Dakota Jazz Club.
The latter half of May brought us a series of amazing overseas acts: Palma Violet, Little Dragon, Temples, DMA's, and closing out with Hot Chip. I hardly slept a full night's sleep that last couple of weeks in May... but it was well worth it!
Below are links to all 32 shows we covered in May 2015. Looking forward to a very busy June!
