Made Violent Setlist

London four-piece Wolf Alice just played to a sold out show at the Turf Club in St Paul on Tuesday, Cinco de Mayo, the 5th of May.
Opening up the show was "the world famous" Made Violent. What I love about these guys is how arrogant singer Joe White was. After unsuccessfully getting the crowd in the back to move closer to the stage, White muttered to himself, "soon you'll be mine." You have to love his confidence. They are good, and they know it.
Their music reminded me of The Strokes, only with a little more energy (and melodies). "Dirty" and "Wasted Days" were medley together, and they powered through their brief 30 minute set. After "On My Own", White made one last plead to the people in the back to come forward. When they refused, he said, "All you back there are jackasses!" It's all rock n' roll, and Made Violent didn't care.
I actually liked them a lot, I just think it's the wrong audience for them.
We've been talking about Wolf Alice since January 2013 (which is pretty good since their debut single wasn't released until March 2013) and saw them at Great Escape in Brighton (05/16/13), so I feel like we've been ahead of the game for this band for a while now. This was their first official real concert show in Minnesota, they previously did a brief three-song promo for Current 89.3 FM earlier this March 2015 (on their way from Chicago), but that session was not opened to the public.
Based on the excited fans and sold out status of the Turf Club, the band will definitely be returning to Minneapolis... except, of course, they'll play a much bigger venue.
Singer Ellie Rowsell had two microphones, a main singing vocals mic and the other with effects and distortions. Unfortunately, I am not entirely sure that the distorted mic was working most of the time -- it only really kicked in near the end of their set when she used it for "Giant Peach".
With only a handful of singles and two EPs, the band quickly played all their singles, including their debut "Fluffy" (which started their set) and latest single "Giant Peach" (which ended their set).
Not all were singles, as the band also previewed some new tracks from their forthcoming album, including "The Wonderwhy" and "Lisbon".
The band quickly returned for the standard encore to close out the night to "Moaning Lisa Smile" from Creature Songs EP, featuring a NSFW cover artwork.
Wolf Alice's debut album My Love Is Cool will be out on 22 June 2015. Check them out early in their music career, you'll be glad you did.
