Los Angeles' Twin Shadow (aka George Lewis Jr.) stopped by First Avenue in Minneapolis last Monday, April 13rd, in support of his latest album Eclipse (Warner Bros. Records). The event was broadcast live, courtesy of Yahoo/Live Nation.
Opening up was Swedish pop singer/songwriter Erik Hassle, just following his sold out tour with New Zealanders' Broods (who we just saw in Minneapolis in March 2015). Currently signed to RCA Records, the crooner latest single "No Words" is quickly becoming this the Summer single according to Time Magazine.
Twin Shadow's "Eclipse Tour", with support from Movement, was meant to play Minneapolis in September 2014, when they had to postponed the event to last week. It may have been a better choice, given that the city is now experiencing some much needed warmth and sunshine.
So what has Lewis Jr. been up to? From my understanding, he took the months off to carefully plan this current tour, getting all his ducks in a row and strategizing key appearances (including his recently Tumblr SXSW appearance; see photo).
As you can see from the setlist, this was indeed the "Eclipse Tour", with the majority of tracks from his latest Eclipse album, including the title track and fan favorite "To The Top" (which he performed on Conan O'Brien in June 2014). The newer songs are more approachable to the masses, which is a departure from his two previous indie releases (Forget and Confess).
While it's been noted that Eclipse had very few guitars, as you can see from the live stream and photography, Twin Shadow, with a full band, still had plenty of guitars to go around.
Remaining tour dates:
