Brisbane's The Veronicas are currently in the US doing a very intimate Up Close & Acoustic USA tour at selected Aloft Hotels across the country. The twins (Jessica and Lisa Origliasso), along with two acoustic guitarists Sherman and Robbie (normally they play bass and guitar, respectively), and unknown cello player, played a brief five song set at the W XYZ Bar inside the Aloft Hotel in Minneapolis, last night, April 16th.
Although they listed the show to start at 6:30pm, the band didn't actually start until nearly an hour later... which their fans (who were there as early as 5pm) patiently waited for them. Some of them flew to Australia to see The Veronicas, and during their set, someone shouted that they were from Brazil. Hearing how they interacted with their fans and especially knowing their names (dedicating "Cruel" to Alex in the audience), I got the impression that the Veronicas have regular open direct communications with their fans.
The band was out promoting their new self-titled album, their third on Sony Music Australia (departing from former label Warner Bros. Records). The album is their first in seven years (Hook Me Up came out in 2007), so it's been a while since the duo had a proper promotional tour.
As you can see from the setlist, they showcased three songs from the new album ("If You Love Someone", "You Ruin Me", and "Cruel"), and ending with two old songs "Untouched" (from Hook Me Up) and crowd favorite "4Ever" (from The Secret Life of the Veronicas).
Prior to "Untouched", Jessica commented about how she never normally wear dresses. She said she had food poisoning the night before and couldn't wear tight jeans. Lisa laughed it off and said, "Too much information!"
This was a lot of fun, and a great way to see The Veronicas. This was also a promotion for Aloft Hotels, who are sponsoring and hosting these musical events (last month featured Christian Burghardt). I'll be sure to keep an eye out for any future Aloft free shows.
Remaining Up Close & Acoustic tour:
