I have been listening to the Pentatonix's second holiday album That's Christmas To Me, which came out earlier in October 2014 via RCA Records.
The album is #1 spot on the Holiday Album Chart for at least 5 consecutive week selling over 99,000 units this week with total sales of nearly 200,000 in the US to date.
If you didn't know, Pentatonix (PTX) is an American a cappella group of five vocalists from Arlington, Texas: lead vocalists Scott Hoying, Kirstie Maldonado, and Mitch Grassi, vocal bass Avi Kaplan and beatboxer Kevin “K.O.” Olusola.
While the entire album are traditional Christmas standards, the best song on the album is their original song "That's Christmas To Me". The song paints this picture of all the important things to the band, from the fireplace burning bright to making snow angels to the gift of family. That's Christmas to you and me.
The song is so good, so well-crafted, that I think the group need to write more original songs instead of relying on the familiar popular songs.
As for the standard holiday songs goes, my favorite is PTX's medley/mashup of "Winter Wonderland" mixed with Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry Be Happy". It's a great rendition, and adds something new to something old.
It's easy to see why That's Christmas To Me is currently #1 on Amazon’s CD and Digital Best Sellers, beating out Taylor Swift's 1984, Disney's Karaoke Series: Frozen and AC/DC's Rock or Bust.
