SUSAN BOYLE
susanboylemusic.com
I know Susan Boyle's album Home For Christmas came out last year (2013), but since we didn't cover it last year, I thought I'd bring it up now since I'm seeing a massive trend for "I'll Be Home for Christmas" song. Already, for 2014, these artists have covered it: Jillette Johnson, Front Porch Step, Fifth Harmony, Seth MacFarlane, Christine Anu, and Johnnyswim (and more, since I'm only on the tip of the iceberg).
With over 22 million albums sold, expect Boyle to have another smash hit on her hands with her sixth studio album Hope (Columbia). Looking over the tracklisting, I think it's an all-covers album, including her renditions of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here", Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water", and John Lennon's "Imagine".
Talking about her sixth album Susan said, "I have really enjoyed making this album. I had a huge input in music suggestions and finally have been able to record one of my all time favourites, “Angel,” originally by Sarah Mclachlan. I also am pleased to be able to sing some uptempo songs that show variation in my repertoire. There are also iconic songs, which were a risk to take on but I hope I’ve done them justice in my own way. John Lennon’s “Imagine” was one of the hardest to record, not because of the music or the vocals but because I wanted to do his song justice. Of course the die-hard Lennon fans will probably criticize but I hope that people like my personal take on the song. I themed this album around inspiration and hope because those are two elements we all need in our life to drive us forward and inspire us to go out and capture our dreams- they worked for me after all.”

HARD LEFT
hardleft.bandcamp.com
Punk band Hard Left is releasing a holiday 7", entitled Skinheads Home For Christmas.
Judging by their name (the term 'hard left' is a British Labour Party reference) and the skinhead imagery, you can tell that the band wear their 70s UK punk influences on their sleeve... Even though the band is actually based in the US, "scattered across the east and west coasts" specifically.
