The Piano Man has decided to hit the road again—
After a bit of a falling out with former touring partner Elton John, then being established as the “4th Franchise” at NYC’s legendary Madison Square Garden where he continues a semi-regular residency (making the fans come to him) Billy Joel has decided to venture out again, for a handful of selected dates outside his native NYC, including a local stop at Target Center in Minneapolis on Saturday, May 16.
Though touring with no new material, fans will be no doubt receptive to Joel, who helped inaugurate Target Center with four sold-out shows in 1990. It will be his tenth time playing the local venue, where he last played solo in 1999, the same year he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and where he ranks #2 (after Garth, I’m assuming) in all-time tickets sold at the venue, with over 171,000 total.
The local announcement was made into such an event, that a cryptic picture was posted on social media, and the press were summoned for a rare 10am. news conference to announce the details. With the Target Center entering its 25th year as an entertainment/sports venue and building renovations soon to announce, this could be the start of many high-profile reveals.
