Nashville's Judah & the Lion are currently wrapping up their tour for Kids These Days, stopping by the sold out 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis last night, November 13th.
Opener Hope Country's singer Brent Johnson had a lot of good things to say about both Joseph and Judah, particularly how he didn't want to play after checking out their soundchecks. He also plugged his upcoming show (Quietdrive 10th Annual Holiday Show) at the Varsity Theater on December 27th.
Songs on his set included some songs from Water, Land, & Sky, but also a new song about finding Jesus.
Portland's Joseph are three sisters, Natalie, Allison, and Meegan. They harmonize as only very close family members can achieve.
Songs on their set included tracks from Native Dreamer Kin, which came out early in March 2014. I got the impression that the sisters were very fun to be around.
Just good ol' boys from the south, Judah & The Lion are extremely talkative (at least singer Judah Akers) and happy to be playing their sold out show at the 7th Street Entry. From my understanding, this was one of the first show that sold out early and they've been looking forward to playing the show and meeting their fans.
To paraphrase one of Judah & the Lion's song, the band is not rock and not country, but 'somewhere in-between'. It's feel-good singalong folk rock, think Mumford & Sons, and you get the idea.
Many of their songs got their most dedicated fans to help sing along, especially on "Back's Against the Wall", where Akers stopped a second to hear his fans finish the lyrics... with the biggest grin on his face.
Highlight of their show was the encore, starting with "Somewhere In-Between", which the band changed many of the lyrics when they play live.
For "Water", they invited both Joseph and Hope Country on stage. This was a feat, considering that the 7th Street Entry stage is notoriously tiny and Judah & The Lion already employed a 6-member live band. So adding another four or five persons on stage was unheard of.... but they managed to pull it off.
Judah & the Lion's Kids These Days is out now on Good Time Inc. I believe all three bands, Joseph, New Hope, and Judah & the Lion will be making their way over to Davenport and Chicago on November 14 and 15, respectively.
