The much anticipated PS4 Update 2.0 is finally here.
Please note that after the update, my PS4 randomly froze and shut off by itself. When it restarted, it went into safe mode and I had to rebuilt the database.
It's been confirmed that the "Rest Mode" was causing the shutdown problem. If you charge your controller via a USB cord after three hours, it will can cause the system to freeze. I have read that you can fix this by setting the power option to "Always Charge" instead of the default three hours charge. However, I've also read that some players said it did not fix the problem. All I know is that I've experienced the bug twice and also my PS4 randomly shut down for no apparent reason.
If you run into this bug, the best way is to hold down the power button for ten seconds. If that does not work, you'll have to unplug the power cord and re-plug it back to cold reboot the PS4.
Sony recommended that players stop using standby mode in the meantime, but that would defeat some of their features like auto update and logging into your system via the Playstation TV... so Sony really need to squash this bug fast.
Update 11/5/14: You know, as soon as I complain about the power bug, has stepped out and released PS4 Firmware 2.01, which addressed those problems. I have not seen the update on my PS4, but I'm sure it will eventually show up.
Other improvements I've noticed is that the IGN app now works much better, playing videos without buffering. This probably is more on IGN's servers than perhaps Sony updating the PS4's ability to handle streaming video.
Here is the breakdown on the update:

What the PS4 is still missing and desperately need: (1) DLNA, (2) local video playback support, (3) turn off the PS4 tracking light/improve battery life on the controller, and (4) remote controller support.
The Last of Us: Remastered
|
In Left Behind, you are playing as Ellie, shortly after Joel was put out of commish.... but also as Ellie in flashbacks. I'm not fond of playing flashbacks, because I feel like it won't affect the character - knowing exactly how they end up (that's why I hated Assassin's Creed).
The very short DLC will give you less than an hour of gaming, if you played it on easy like I did, and I personally think they should have incorporating it in the regular game - instead of as a standalone DLC choice. Plus, the content should just be given free in all future edition of the game.
If you've never played the game, get the superior The Last of Us: Remastered version with all the free extras. If you've already beaten the game on PS3, there's no need to upgrade to the new version. Since I already beat the game on the PS3, I found it really hard to want to play the PS4 version.... even with the amazing improved graphics.
In Xbox One news, the console has been getting a lot of bad press lately - due to its lower resolution vs the PS4. While most new PS4 plays at a native 1080p resolution, the Xbox One is usually lower, around 900p. Xbox will be cutting their price by $50 for the holiday, but will consumers buy it knowing that the console is slightly inferior to the PS4?
I believe if the Xbox sell itself for $199, it will catch up to the PS4's numbers in no time. Remember, the reason why PS4 has such a lead over the Xbox is that the Xbox (with Kinect) was selling for $499, while PS4 was $100 cheaper. With the rumors that Xbox One will be redesigned into a smaller, slimmer (and assumingly inexpensive) model, I can see them selling it for $199.
Speaking as someone who have dipped his feet in all the consoles, and PC gaming, I personally believe if you want the best graphics, the best FPS, the best everything, you need a powerful gaming PC. Most modern games support gamepads, so you can plug the PC into your television for a perfect gaming experience.
