Australian four-piece The Jezabels are in the middle of their rescheduled North American Tour. The ARIA award winning band is currently on a massive tour in support of their sophomore album The Brink, which came out earlier this year via Play It Again Sam (PIAS).
Opening up the show was Montreal's Gold & Youth. The synthy indie band is currently signed to Arts & Crafts and playing tracks from their album Beyond Wilderness.
Their set was fairly brief (under 30 minutes) and ending with two of their best songs, "Jewel" (with Louise Burns taking lead vocals) and "Time to Kill."
The Jezabels came on stage about 9pm to showcase the majority of songs from their latest album The Brink. The new album was a shift in a different direction, based on that difficult sophomore slump, but also the band was faced with a new producer and a new record label.
You can tell that the new record still contain the great personal lyrics, but more upbeat, particularly with The Brink's best song, "The End." That song was fantastic live, although the audience's clear favorite was "Hurt Me" (from their debut album Prisoner), based on the loud claps and cheers.
Most of the attention was focused on Hayley Mary, who sounded a little like Karen O and Kate Bush, but she had very few words to say on stage. Still, whatever lack of words she had, she certainly made it up with her funky dance moves.
