Seldom do bands live up to their names. Barenaked Ladies and Bens Fold Five, I'm looking at you.
My wife and I went to see this band, Diarrhea Planet, last year because of their awesome name. Seeing 4+ guitarists playing together is a sight to behold. Playing upside down, synchronizing riffs, and dance moves. Wild and out of control. I picked up their latest album I'm Rich Beyond my Wildest Dreams at the show, because after the energy exhausted on stage, I wonder if that energy carry through to a studio recording.
It mostly does and it doesn't. The album is uneven at times, it doesn't stay metal for too long, nor does it stay too punk or too garage indie. It's a sonic treatment to riffs as diarrhea is to corn filled solids.
What I love about this band, is that they don't take themselves too seriously.
Funny story going around about this band, is that they once had a bet with Wavves, the loser had to name themselves Diarrhea Planet. This band lost said bet.
Aloha EP and Yama-Uba EP, both originally released in 2011, is now being reissued, three years after being out-of-print.
The two EPs will be coming out next week, April 8th, thanks to Infinity Cat Recordings.
Both are as good, or better, than their latest I'm Rich Beyond my Wildest Dreams.
"Ghost with a Boner" is a personal favorite. Nothing says fun like a band named after a bowel movement world, singing about a specter with a raging hard on.
