Dan stopped by the Americana Music Association and Thirty Tigers showcase at St. David's Episcopal Church on March 12th. The full schedule: Emily Kinney, Parker Millsap, The Haden Triplets, Wanda Jackson, Willie Watson, John Fullbright, and Bobby Rush.
You may recall that we previously written about Emily Kinney with her 2013 Expired Love EP. Apparently the EP is being re-issued next week (March 18th) with two additional songs. Emily Kinney started the St David's Church show at 7:30pm.
She is on the Walking Dead on AMC. Cute pop songs about boyfriends, love and getting married.
Parker Millsap is "an Oklahoma native brought up in the Pentecostal church" with a self-titled album that came out February 4, 2014 via Okrahoma Records/Thirty Tigers.
Lots of songs about religion. Old time feel and a great version of "You Got to Move", a Rev Gary Davis song covered by the Rolling Stones on Sticky Fingers.
Petra, Tanya and Rachel are the daughters jazz double-bassist Charlie Haden, and perform under the name The Haden Triplets. Their self-titled debut album came out Feb 04, 2014 on Jack White's Third Man Records.
These guys have amazing harmonies and cover Bill Monroe, Carter Family, etc... Closed with Everly Brothers' "So Sad". Really great show and you could see the sisterly dynamics in action. Worth checking out the new release.
BCR Los Angeles and BCR Nashville recently announced that Wanda Jackson will be a part of their new Record Store Day next month (April 2014). The new Windy City Redux: Wanda Jackson 7" will be in stores April 19th on limited edition, colored vinyl. The naming of the single came from her live performances from the Queen of Rock n’ Roll captured at Lincoln Hall in Chicago back in 2011.
Wanda Jackson was great fun. She has been at this since 1955 and just keeps going. She still has the voice and tells stories about Elvis Presley and Jack White.
