PORTER
Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 4:54pm
Today first guy, not a band, is Porter.
Saw one song and then it was his break...
White Stripes type of tune with heavy stomping on the bass drum
RÁJ
Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 8:00pm
Raj at Central Presbyterian Church. First band on the Bella Union line-up.
Dreamy pop with fuzz guitar and a voice reminiscent of Ray Lamontagne.
I love these showcases at this church and it was only $5 admission.
HORSE THIEF
Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 9:12pm
Horse Thief from Oklahoma. Very 80's guitar sounding band with keyboards. One of the bridges leveraged the sound of a Mellotron.
New LP Fear In Bliss to be out on April 15th on Bella Union.
ARC IRIS
Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 10:20pm
Arc Iris - Josie from the Low Anthem in a new band.
I didn't know anything about her or this band and it may be one of the hardest to explain. Her voice is like Joanna Newsome and the music is a mix of country, jazz, pop and a whole lot of other styles... Worth checking out.
Arc Iris' self-titled debut album is coming out out April 1 on Anti- Records. Arc Iris is currently on a nationwide tour with Nicole Atkins.
AGNES OBEL
Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 12:13am
Last one of the night Agnes Obel. Very dark orchestral songs. They were all slow building and had the crowd all paying rapt attention. She filled the church, and once done, the church emptied fast.
The Danish singer/songwriter is currently touring in support of her sophomore album, Aventine, out now on Play It Again Sam/[PIAS] America.
