EVASI0N
evasi0n.com
Last December, I mentioned about the release of evasi0n's iOS 7 jailbreak, but I also said I probably wouldn't do it because there's nothing so great when you jailbreak.
Well I've come around since then, because I have discovered the greatest reason for jailbreak: semi-multitasking! My biggest complaint about the iPad is that it only does one thing at a time. That means if you're watching YouTube and you want to check your email, you have to close the application. It's so annoying and disruptive.
With VideoPane ($2), you can have the YouTube float on top of whatever you're doing and have the video running in the background. This even works with podcast or any application that uses the native iOS video playback. It is pretty awesome, you can resize the window and drag-n-drop it anywhere on the screen with, get this, no stutter! Video playback is smooth 100% of the time. I'm running this on a first generation iPad Mini, so your mileage may vary.
What puzzles me is why Apple doesn't allow this to happen on their regular iOS? Seriously, this is a really, really useful thing for the iPad.

GOOGLE DRIVE
google.com/drive
Reader Invisigoth commented that he wasn't able select extra audio streams on his converted MP4 file on Google Drive on my article about multiple audio tracks.
The real thing I got from the comment is that basically Google is offering 15 GB of storage for FREE! I tested out uploading a video with audio commentary (in this case, an episode of the Walking Dead from my Bluray) and, sure enough, Google will stream back the file - but it's absolutely TERRIBLE.
Take a look at the side-by-side comparison. The Google Video look completely craptastic. Not only did Google Video stripped out the extra audio track, but it took out the subtitles (closed captions) and made the video look worst.
I believe you can alternatively download your original file on your computer and it should play just fine ... but, of course, did not work on my iPad because I don't believe it will let you save the file on the device.
Streaming files on your Google Drive is cool, but I would not recommend it.

AMAZON STREAMING MUSIC
amazon.com
The latest rumor is that Amazon will be getting into the already crowded music streaming market. As you are aware, I am not a fan of paying for streaming music and I've made my opinion quite clear. Then some years later, many of these services (particularly Spotify) offered music streaming with advertisements. Personally, I still won't use Spotify because it requires a Facebook account, which I refuse to give them.
According to the rumors, Amazon wants to bundle it with their Prime Service because they are going price hike their service as much as $40 more. The music extra is not that appealing to me, because, as far as I'm concern, Prime sucks. There is nothing good on their free instant prime, and, also, I don't order enough stuff from them (although I will confessed I just ordered Game of Thrones Season 3 from them) to make it worthwhile.
One silver lining is that I love the fact that they offered me MP3s of albums I purchased from them in the past. Amazon already have the infrastructure to offer streaming music, so it just makes sense for them to enter into this market.

YOUTUBE
youtube.com
I just unsubscribed to a ton of YouTube Channels because they started putting advertisements in certain feeds. I totally understand the ads-thing, content providers needs to make money, I get it. Unfortunately, the way the way the ads work on the PS3 YouTube app is that you cannot skip it. It is so very annoying when a series of ads pre-roll every videos! You have to basically wait 15 or 30 seconds. The only option I have left is to unsubscribe. So, goodbye Engadget and the Nerdist YouTube channel, watching unskippable ads are just not worth it for me. It's really a shame, because I have admitted in the past that I think Chris Hardwick really funny.
So what's the solution? I don't have the answer. Maybe have the advertisements in the middle or at the end of the show. Or just give me the ability to skip the ad. Some shows, like TWIT, actually randomly do a 30 second advertisement in the middle of their show. I don't mind that as much because it just feels like part of the show... or if I don't like what they are selling, I will fast-forward it.
On the brighter side, I've been really enjoying the AMC Movie Talk channel. I was actually searching for Walking Dead (AMC Television, which has nothing to do with AMC Theatres) and that came up by accident. I liked what I saw... so it's one of my number one channel I watch. ... That is until they start rolling in the ads! Haha.

THOSE WHO KILL
aetv.com
You can get the pilot episode of Those Who Kill on a variety of platform for free (I have it on my Playstation Video, Apple iTunes, and Amazon). Some people may complain about 'Americanizing' European shows, but who cares when it's good?
What I like about this new show, and this is all based on the pilot, is I love the professor character (Thomas Schaeffer). He had demonstrated that in order to understand the killer, he "becomes the killer". It's absolutely scary, because his character is a little mental.... Basically, the better part of what is appealing about the Hannibal television show with the FBI investigator Will Graham character.
The main character, Catherine Jensen, is played by Chloë Sevigny. She has instincts, but she doesn't seem like a very good detective (again, this is all based on watching the pilot). It seems like the real talent is Schaeffer, even though the show treats him like Sevigny's sidekick.
I cannot wait to see episode two to find more on the character's backstories, Those Who Kill episode two is playing this Monday.
