“Are you gonna save me? Can you save me?” so asks an unhinged Vaden Todd Lewis on “Mister Love” one of the many excellent moments from Rubberneck, The Toadies’ hard rock classic which celebrates its 20 year anniversary.
Rubberneck still crackles and burns; it’s ferocious rock and roll infuses the bite of punk with a southern strut. Combined with Lewis’ commanding voice and full-lunged scream, the record’s tales of desperation and desire are truly unsettling. On April 1st, Kirtland Records will be reissuing a special anniversary edition of the record on cd and 180-gram vinyl. The album will be remastered and feature five bonus tracks, both live and from the original recording sessions.
The Toadies are no stranger to the Twin Cities; most recently the band played a two night stint in 2012 with Social Distortion. They’ll be performing Rubberneck in full (that album only clocks in at 36 minutes!) and tons of other goodies at First Avenue on April 11th. Fellow rabble rousers the Supersuckers and Battleme will open.
