Once a Michigander, always a Michigander…
Los Angeles-based indie folk band Lord Huron founder Ben Schneider named his solo project (now a full band) in part, after one of the Great Lakes closest to his hometown of Okemos, Michigan (I grew up close to the shores of Lake Huron myself).
His (their) debut full-length, Lonesome Dreams (IAMSOUND), released after a trio of acclaimed EPs, has been positively received as well, with Esquire Magazine deeming them “the last true New Band You Need to Hear This Year.”
On record, the folk harmonies are delicate and roll with orchestral rhythms; while live, there is a more urgent sound, filled with percussion and evocative of open spaces and bonding with nature.
You may have already caught them, opening last fall for Alt-J, and here’s the chance to see a full headlining show.
Openers Night Moves have dutifully filled in*, after originally scheduled Night Beds had to drop out (hey, it could have been Night Ranger…!).
The locally based band, promoting their debut, Colored Emotions (Domino) impressed us enough opening for Poliça (in Minneapolis and Colorado) and Django Django last year, that we’re more than happy to check out their laid back, 70s AM radio style rock again.

* Note: This will make for a nice reunion, because Night Moves previously played with Lord Huron for a 19-city tour in 2012. W♥M covered their appearance at the much smaller 7th Street Entry on 10/16/12, where Ellie wrote, "Night Moves wasn't in anyway disappointing either, being the release show for Colored Emotions, they really put it on. I've seen them on three different occasions, and I'm always amazed by their performance."
