The Emperor's New Clothes
How could I possibly know what I want

I love Sinéad O'Connor, you all know that. Recently, her open letters to Miley Cyrus were the center of controversy.
It all started when Rolling Stones and various newspapers brought to the attention to O'Connor that Cyrus' video for "Wrecking Ball" was inspired by "Nothing Compares 2 U". After watching Cyrus "naked and licking sledgehammers", O'Connor was concerned at the direction young Miley Cyrus was heading. So, as a mother, she wrote an open letter to Cyrus, asking her to not allow herself to be pimped and that her talent was worth more than her sexual appeal. O'Connor went through a similar crossroad early in her career, when the record label wanted to based her music around her sexuality, which she objected with her bald looks.
The letter started a public fight between the two musicians, which inspired more open letters and tweets, etc. I won't go into all the details, there were feelings hurt on both side, but I wanted point out what people are forgetting: that clearly Cyrus love and respect O'Connor (her current looks and music video was 'inspired' by O'Connor after all), and if O'Connor want to stand behind her "American Kindness" tour, that she should give Cyrus time to grow.
Sinéad O'Connor's "The American Kindness Tour" starts November 4 at a three-date residency at the City Winery in Chicago. The tour is in support of her latest album How About I Be Me (And You Be You?), out now on One Little Indian Records.
