Read More Baths is the stage name of Will Wiesenfeld, with his new album, Obsidian (the vinyl is coming out June 18, 2013, on Anticon Records).

Garnering much praise and adoration from major music blogs and online outlets, including a Best New Music badge from Pitchfork, Baths has been riding high as a result. I didn't even recognize Baths' Will Wiesenfeld as he took the stage on Wednesday night at the Triple Rock. Long gone are his chop sideburns and he looked noticeably thinner. Following sets by LA-based bands D33J and Houses, the crowd was waiting in complete anticipation by the time he took the stage. He started in with the song 'Worsening', the first track off his new album 'Obsidian'. Starting out slow and melancholic, then the beats came in and the whole places was buzzing and rattling, and you could feel deep bass vibrating through your entire body.
He then played the next track off 'Obsidian' titled 'Miasma Sky'. It seems to be his poppiest electronic song on the album, which seemed to please the super-young crowd at the Triple Rock, as most were bouncing and dancing around in excitement. The crowd hardly stopped moving from start to finish of the show, further boosting Will Wiesenfeld's own enthusiasm for playing his songs live. The next track, we learned afterwards, was a completely improvised song made my Wiesenfeld and his accompanying guitarist/fellow knob-turner. It seemed pretty well executed, as it came as a surprise to myself and everyone else when he noted that.
He followed up the improvised song with 'Lovely Bloodflow', a song off his 2010 release on Anticon Records 'Cerulean'. It features a choppy beat over pretty keyboard and synth lines and his ever-prominent falsetto vocals. Next was 'Ironworks', where he showcased his piano-playing skills and his ability to write soft, pretty songs. It then melted in with an instrumental piece. He played several more songs off 'Obsidian', as well as a few more off Cerulean, finishing the set with 'Plea'. He came back with insistence from the show-goers to play his encore song 'No Eyes', one more track off 'Obsidian'. Judging by the crowd enthusiasm, especially by a few hilarious drunk attendees, it seems they were entertained and treated well by Wiesenfeld.
