The Script with Tristan Prettyman just played the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis last night, October 26th.
If you go to enough of these old style historic theater shows, artists goes on stage on time. So if the ticket says 7:30, it starts at 7:30, not one minute earlier or later. I really like that.
Tristan Prettyman started off the show with her live band, Steve Miller and Josh Dunahoo. Listening to her talk about her songs, you realized that her music is basically a biography of her life and experiences.
Songs from her set included new ones from Cedar + Gold (out now via Capitol Records), including "I Was Gonna Marry You", "Never Say Never", and "My Oh My." Now when I think of that last song, "My Oh My", I think of Prettyman eating tacos, because she's "a taco girl."
My absolute favorite is, I believe is called "The Rebound" which is a hidden/bonus track off Cedar + Gold. It's about meeting a guy at Trader Joe's and falling for his bananas. It's pretty funny, I wish you could've heard it when Prettyman sings, "and you were pretty f**** hot," which got a loud cheer from some women in the audience.
The Irish rock band The Script had a three column stadium light, which I felt was underused. Instead the attention is always focused on singer Danny O'Donoghue who spent much of their songs in high energy mode, jumping and singing and pointing his fingers at the audience. He often breaks the stage/audience barrier by going into the aisle and singing to his adoring fans.
Hearing The Script talk about America (and why they're always touring here), I felt that the band generally really, really loves it here.
Highlight of their set was their first single, "We Cry," which was played early in their show, setting a tone that they were going to do hits as well as new songs from their #3 album (which came out earlier this month). The majority of their set was high energy pop/rock songs, with the exception "I'm Yours."
New songs? They were generally well-received, included "Six Degrees of Separation" and "Give the Love Around." The latter is about Karma and what you do will come back to haunt you.
Encore was "Breakeven" and "For The First Time."
