Psychic Twin's first stop on their mini-tour was at 7th Street Entry, last night, October 3rd.
This is a psychedelic electropop trio from Illinois, featuring Erin on vocals/keys and Jonny on these electronic Alesis drum pads or sometime guitars and Brett on a variety of keys and electro pads.
As I suspected, at the heart of Psychic Twin is Erin Fein, who started writing and recording music two and a half years ago. She started using vocal doubling effects on her songs and it's the ghostly secondary twin vocals that they took their name from.
Psychic Twin did dance songs, but to paraphrase Lara, "Minnesotans don't dance." Someone else in the audience apologized out loud with the same sentiment.
I was surprised that for a band with only three released songs ("I Want to Forget", "Gonna Get Her", "Deepest Part"), that they had more than enough songs to get them through a 45-minute set. They must have a goldmine of songs hidden away. The whole set was done in darkness with these crazy neon green stars (and some rare party flashing strobe lights). The psychedelic effects is not too dissimilar to their music video for "Gonna Get Her" by directors Hoshor & Adams (you can watch it on vimeo.com).
Psychic Twin is currently on their way to CMJ and stopping along to some various shows with Hundred Waters. Their latest 7" is Gonna Get Her, out now via Lefse Records.
