Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside has been busy. They were just in Minneapolis last May, and now the band is back in here at the 7th Street Entry last night, September 5th. What happened after May, the band booked a ton of dates in France for the months of June & July, and had a grand old time. You can tell that Ford was smitten a little by France, as some of the new songs seemed influenced by the country.
Opening band was Painted Saints, who I previously mentioned that they music equipments than they had people. Their music has a lot of layers, especially with all the instruments and sometime whistling. I think they ended their set with "The Fat Kid Rides His Bike in the Snow."
As for Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside, I will admit to really loving their Dirty Radio album. Of course, by this time, they've written a whole new album (to be called Untamed Beast) and it seemed like most of the songs on this tour is from the future album. Fortunately, I did catch them in 2011, so I basically heard most of the songs on Dirty Radio live. If you were hoping to hear the old songs on this tour, I suggest you arrive early as it seems they grouped them in at the beginning.
As for the new songs, I thought they sounded like they were written and designed to be played live. They sounded more upbeat and up-tempo. Particularly "Summer Love" (aka "F*** That"), "Bad Boys," and the closer, "Party" were sounded really aggressive and fun. Can't wait to hear the studio version of those songs and hear the differences.
Highlight of the show is either their cover of Wreckless Eric's "Whole Wide World" or the encore, "Do Me." The latter, the band invited the audience to come up and dance with them (see photo).
Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside's album is called Dirty Radio, which was recently re-issued with two additional tracks. Look for Untamed Beast in January 2013.
