MINDY SMITH

Mindy Smith is a singer-songwriter who rose to fame with her cover of Dolly Parton's classic "Jolene" song. Although that cover brought attention to her music, she does realize that writing, and ultimately, owning your own music is the way to go. She had this to say about her forthcoming all original, self-titled album:
Smith is kicking off the first leg of her "Closer" tour in July in Nashville. Look for her album come out June 26th (or you can likely pick up a copy at one of her show)

I spent the last several years trying to get my bearings and investing in myself. I think unless you're willing to do that, it's going to be very difficult to convince other people that they should invest in what you're doing. I stepped back and regained control of the things that I could, which were publishing— the current songs that I'm writing I own my publishing on— as well as masters and recordings. People don't realize that unless you own those masters, you really don't own anything. You get to own your personality, I suppose, but that doesn't pay the bills necessarily.

AARON NEVILLE
aaronneville.com
The first time I heard Aaron Neville, it was on the 1990 benefit Red Hot & Blues, and it was like nothing I've ever heard before. It certainly stood out as so distinctive and different than anything else on the album … and I loved it.
It's been a while since Neville's 2006 album, Bring It On Home... The Soul Classics, but I'm glad to see that the singer is still around. He's has just announced that EMI's Blue Note Records signed a deal with him to release a new album this fall.
Blue Note's President Don Was was rather excited to sign Neville: "Aaron Neville is one of the most expressive and soulful artists of all time...it's such a thrill to hear him sing. His vocals have a way of reaching into your heart and stirring something really deep inside. It's a huge honor to welcome him to Blue Note Records and to be involved, along with the legendary Keith Richards, in the production of this album."
Expect the album to be doo-wop, which was the music that Neville loved as a child. They were all hand-picked by Neville himself.
