Read More Old Monk Birds of Belize is the debut album from New York's Old Monk (can I just guess that they're based out of Brooklyn as well?). The album is coming out January 17th, and I am told that the pressed yellow vinyl will come with a download code of the album, plus three bonus tracks ("Monocle", "Class A Stock", "Tartan Lingerie")

Sword and sorcery (S&S) is a sub-genre of fantasy and historical fantasy.
OLD MONK
freeoldmonk.com
Just a reminder that NY's Old Monk will be in Minneapolis this Wednesday, and then their tour ends in Chicago at Burlington Bar. If you want to keep up: they have been taking pictures with hipstergram and posting it on their blog. They were excited to see snow, apparently.
Check out their video for "Sacred Birds":
DEAD CAN DANCE
deadcandance.com
I actually really like Dead Can Dance, their music is like something you'd find at a gothic medieval fair.
You might remember that I wrote about Lisa Gerrard's work with Ichi (2009) and then mentioned Brendan Perry on tour (2011). Well, the two have reunited in late 2011 to record a new album, to be out August 9th. It should be noted that their last studio album, Spiritchaser, was released sixteen years ago.
In support the forthcoming album, Gerrard and Perry will be on tour:
THE SWORD
swordofdoom.com
The Sword's "Hammer Of Heaven" was submitted for inclusion on The Avengers soundtrack album, but unfortunately, due to limited audio space, it did not make the final track listing. However, the band and their new label, Razor & Tie, made the song digitally available to coincide with the release of the film.
The Sword will return to the studio to record their fourth album after their brief June tour (see details below). Look for the new album this fall.
TENPOLE TUDOR
stiff-records.com
"The Swords of a Thousand Men" by Tenpole Tudor is featured as the opening theme to the semi-recent UK animated film, "The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists!" (The United State's title is under "The Pirates! Band of Misfits").
Stiff Records remastered the original EP and made the songs (including B-sides) available digitally (yes, iTunes and Spotify, etc).
Not really much to add, except that the EP features new artwork with the band's other big hit song, "Wunderbar".
CRAFT SPELLS
facebook.com/craftspells
Craft Spells' new EP, Gallery, is coming out next week, May 15th, 2012. The same date that Diablo III will be out, so I may or may not see daylight for the weeks to follow.
They are wrapping up their tour date with The Drums:
WIZARDS OF TIME
facebook.com/WAZIRDFOSITEM
Hidden Shoal Recordings is releasing Little's Jingle, a new single from Arizona's "technicolour art-rock masters", Wizards Of Time. The single is taken from their forthcoming album, Will The Soft Curse Plague On?, out in July 2012.
Not much else is given, their official website is currently down, so I'll just leave you with the press biography:
VÅR
sacredbonesrecords.com
War, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing!
The Danish duo WAR has changed their name to Vår (in old Norse, "vår" means spring). Vår is Loke Rahbek & Elias Bender Rønnenfelt, and their music is lo-fi dance with DIY punk sensibilities.
NPR recently just premiered their new song, "In Your Arms (Final Fantasy)" & Pitchfork has the video & interview.

Read More The Sword The Sword is a much younger band, formed in Austin, Texas in 2003. Their sound is more on the “thrash” end of doom metal…

Progressive without being prog and pop without being pap, the Wizards' debut release Will The Soft Curse Plague On? is a staggering and unique concept album that weaves a universe-enveloping tapestry of dizzying complexity and emotional depth. They are the music makers, the makers of music, the slingers of sound. They are the Wizards Of Time...
