So the summer festival season is just beginning. With, it seems, squillions of new festivals popping up every year, it's hard to keep track of which ones are worth going to anymore. The Big Day Out in 2012 will be celebrating it's 20th year, which is no mean feat these days; and is a pretty good indication that what it does, it does well.
Big Day Out 2012 will see the usual high calibre Australian and international acts taking the stages in Auckland (Jan 20), Gold Coast (Jan 22), Sydney (Jan 26), Melbourne (Jan 29), Adelaide (Feb 3) and Perth (Feb 5). As usual, there are also a handful of JJJ Unearthed winners that have earned their right (by being fairly excellent at what they do) to appear at the festival.
So who's playing you ask?
Well at the top of the bill we have the likes of Kanye West, Kasabian (do they ever leave this country?!?), Soundgarden, My Chemical Romance and Mr Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. Brilliant! To accompany them, there will be some tasty treats from Röyksopp, Battles, Architecture in Helsinki, The Vaccines and Foster the People. But wait! There's more! What about Best Coast, Boy and Bear, Bluejuice, Papa vs Pretty and our old friends Regurgitator and Frenzal Rhomb? Why yes!
So... you should probably (if you haven't already) think about buying some tickets. So for more information head over to the official Big Day Out website and while your there dont forget to check out the options for side shows, the word on the street about the skateboarding thing (ooh err Tony Hawk!) and quite a few other interesting things.
They've also set up quite a nifty little blog so you can keep well up to date with various news tidbits: http://bigdayoutofficial.wordpress.com/
Also why don't you check out the Triple J unearthed bands who will be playing at the various festivals around the country:
- Melbourne – King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
- Sydney – Underlights
- Adelaide – The Honey Pies
- Gold Coast – Dune Rats
- Perth – The Growl
Looking good!
