Read More Cameras Cameras are a Sydney-based band that have been on the up and up in recent times. From vocalist, Eleanor’s win (as a solo artist) in Triple J’s Unearthed competition in 2008 to airplay on some of Australia most prominent radio stations (Triple J, Triple M, Triple R and Fbi)...

I have a million CMJ announcements, so I'll be compiling them throughout the week(s), if I have time. In the meantime, here are some CMJ bands in the past week that's come across my desk:
CAMERAS
camerasmusic.com
Sally's already mentioned this band a few times. They are from Sydney, and they are coming to the USA to do a promo tour:
Their new album is called In Your Room and comes out October 25th, via Manimal Vinyl. At the moment, they are offering "I Know" as a free download on their website. Sally said to check out the video for "Defeatist". It's a bit old-timey, in my opinion.
WEATHERBOX
weatherboxmusic.com
Weatherbox will be playing at CMJ on 10/19 and 10/21. Their new EP, Follow the Rattle of the Afghan Guitar will be coming out on October 4th, via Youth Conspiracy Records.
If you're nowhere near New York, the good news is that they're going on tour with Sainthood Reps and may be coming through your town - see tour details below, courtesy of Alt Press:
The Dallas show in November features two great "girl" bands Girl in a Coma and The Coathangers
GRACE WOODROOFE
gracewoodroofe.com.au
Another Australian, she is described a folk/bluesy... Her debut EP is called Always Want, which will be coming out January 24, 2012 on Modular Records.
Anyroad, with the exception of the CMJ show, she will be opening up for the Ben Harper. Lucky, lucky!
THE STATIC JACKS
thestaticjacks.com
I haven't heard of this New Jersey band, but if they're on tour with The Wombats, it's thumbs up for me! (It looks like they're stopping in Minneapolis too!)
The band recently appeared on Rolling Stone with a free "synth" remix of their track "Into the Sun". The original song is taken from their debut album, If You're Young.
Andrew Maury, who remixed the song tells Rolling Stone: "I took a guitar riff that The Static Jacks had written for an interlude section in the original song and I re-played it on a synth to use as a background texture in the chorus .... I like to reinvent the song but I always attempt to pay homage to the original."
BODY LANGUAGE
om-records.com
Body Language's album, Social Studies, is the followup from their 2009 debut album, Speaks. Founding member, Grant Wheeler, described the new album as not quite "dub step", but rather they wrote what they wanted to write: "We get the same joy and satisfaction out of losing our shit behind a pair of turntables as we do singing four-part harmonies."
Body Language will be playing CMJ this year, I don't have the dates just yet (nor is it on the official CMJ website).
Finally, we have Life or Death's CMJ official showcase at the Cake Shop on 10/20/11. Doors at 7pm, $12 will get you all these bands, plus DJ Sets from NNA Tapes & Todd Pendu/Electric Lady.
Bands on the bill:
3am ??? I'll be dead by that time!
