Being from Minnesota, you'd think I would never complain about the heat... but, seriously, this week is HOT! I took showers every hour just to keep from dying, and my two poor cats! They just lay there on the ground, panting.
Speaking of hot, hot on the Hype Machine's chart is Wooden Birds. I noticed there was a high spike in traffic, and thanks to the Hype people, their song is climbing up the no-remix chart. What's interesting to note is that I posted the song in May, but rather than having people go to the last (of the 14 blogs that posted the song), the Hype Machine shows the original post - that's why my article from May 2011 is suddenly hot.
So, with the unbelievable sweltering heat, Summer has arrived. Please also check out Feels Like Summer and Summer with the Swedish.
THE POSTELLES
thepostelles.com
I've previously mentioned The Postelles before (and unfortunately, due to band conflicts, I did not catch them at NXNE). Well the boys are giving away a four-track cover EP called Summer Undercovers, featuring covers of The Smiths' "Ask", Joe Jones' "California Sun", Wreckless Eric's "Whole Wide World", and The Ramones' "Beat on the Brat". The Ramones song was recorded live at the Mercury Lounge on June 8th, 2011.
The Postelles also reminds us to use sun screen, because "our album can get really hot". Cheese.
Tour dates below:
THE SUMMER SET
everythings-fine.com
The Summer Set's sophomore album, Everything's Fine was released yesterday, July 19th, via Razor and Tie Records. Apparently the exclusive iTunes is the place to be, there is a special deluxe package with videos and photos available only on the iTunes version. The album was already awarded four stars by AP (Alternative Press).
Look for the band on tour (oh, look the band's coming here to St Paul):
JOSH ROUSE
www.joshrouse.com
Josh Rouse is a folky singer/songwriter, his latest album is called El Turista, but the dude's been writing and releasing music since his debut Dressed Up Like Nebraska in 1998. In the decade of writing music, he's released over ten albums.
If you're new to his music, a good place to start is a free Summertime Sampler, with 25 of his songs. You can get the sampler at noisetrade.com.
The sampler also includes songs from his various albums, including his Bedroom Classics Closet Archives (a yearly subscription where users can download rare and unreleased material) as well as a song from his new project, Josh Rouse and The Long Vacations, to be released September 27th.
