Read More Lara tells me that Margaret Cho is beloved by Asians and gay men. It made me question myself when I'm qualified as both Asian and male. To be honest, I think she's well loved beyond those two groups, even by white people. (That's a joke).

Whether it's creating All American Girl television show or as an actress (did you sleep through Face/Off?) or a comedian (Notorious C.H.O., etc) or dancing on Dancing with the Stars or writing and performing music on Cho Dependent, Margaret Cho is an incredible talent.
While she's spread through all these media, I think it's the LGBT community that really, really loves her.
So, I'm a bit excited to see Cho, in a few days, at The Pantages Theater (note the change in venue from the State Theater), so I thought I'd give her latest album, Cho Dependent, a full listen (I've previously briefly listen to the album).
What makes this album really interesting is that each song is co-written by Cho and a guest artist. While most of these artists (Tegan & Sara, Ben Lee, Ani DiFranco, Andrew Bird, Jon Brion, Grant-Lee Phillips, Fiona Apple), are of the Indie-scene, they do bring a nice mix of variety and keeps the songs diverse. For instance, the Dylan-esque song styling of "Lice" (a song about head lice... now you've heard it all!) is only a few song from a dancey "Asian Adjacent" (Grant-Lee Phillips does a great job on this song with the beats).
As you may suspect, the album is sprinkled with lots of humor, particuarly sexual humor, like on "Your D**k", "My Puss", and "Baby, I'm With the Band". The later is actually a pretty good rock song, about a groupie and her adventures from the roadie, to the bassist, to the singer. With profanity and adult theme, this album is definitely not for children, only adults with a sense of humor need apply here.
My favorite song on the album is with Ani DiFranco, a rather fun super-hero song called "Captain Cameltoe". I hope Margaret Cho does this song live when I see her. Cho Dependent is out now via Clownery Records, you can pick up the CD at amazon or Target. Be sure to stay to the very end for the masturbatory song "Lesbian Escalation" with Rachael Yamagata.
I'll be back with a report on her live show soon. In the meantime, check her out tour:
Check out Margaret Cho's latest video for "Eat S*** and Die", a funny Vaudeville music video. And yes, those are dancing poop.
