Theme: strange names for bands.
ARRINGTON DE DIONYSO'S MALAIKAT DAN SINGA
When I wrote the review for Arrington de Dionyso, I called it the most interesting record on my playlist, and it's true, I didn't know any "white" guy (he looks white, at least) singing songs in Indonesian. While most people might dismiss this as a joke/novelty, I feel this isn't the case with Arrington de Dionyso. I believe he's serious about his music, as much as he's serious about his paintings (of often strange beasts and nude women).
If you signed up for the K Zip Pak, you were treated to four songs (plus new artwork) from his upcoming album, Suara Naga. What I instantly liked about the preview track, "Aku di Penjara" is the girl singing in the background, while a devish-sounding Arrington sing in the foreground.
Besides from Suara Naga, Arrington de Dionyso is also reported to be working with documentary filmmaker Elisa Da Prato on two projects. Plus on top of that, he's on tour. Busy, busy guy. Sorry, I missed him when he came through town, but you know how it is having so little time... Since I don't want you to miss him, I'm including the rest of his tour dates here:
LOS CAMPESINOS!
Let me get this straight: this is a Welsh band with a Spanish name. What's even stranger is that the name translate to The Farmers.
Los Campesinos! have a new four-track EP called All's Well That Ends and features reworked version of songs from their Romance is Boring album.
I am happy to report that we'll be covering them for their New York appearance. Their October tour dates as follows:
I believe Lazerbeak may have stolen his name from Transformers. You know, Laserbeak, the robot bird that turns into a cassette. You know what cassettes are, don't you?
It doesn't matter, what you should know is that he and Doomtree are from Minneapolis. The city's really blowing up with indie hip-hip music, leading the way are Atmosphere and Doomtree. While this type of music isn't my cup of tea, I can tell you that I've attended a few Rhymesayers shows and they are astounding because their fans really get into it.
It doesn't look like Doomtree are playing Minneapolis with their "Wings & Teeth Tour", but I suspect we'll see them play here soon enough.
