I love stand-up comedy, so nothing made me happier than listening to John Mulaney's The Top Part from Comedy Central Records. I believe this audio soundtrack is actually from a (possibly future DVD release?) Comedy Central Presents show - but the full one hour show is now available on compact disc.
Just to give you an insight, I normally listen to my comedy albums in the car or on the home stereo as I don't really require to hear every note and pitch of a music album. So I had The Top Part on my car stereo and ended up listening to it for weeks - simply because I was too lazy to take out the CD.
So apparently, Mulaney actually best known for being a cast member on VH1's Best Week Ever. I think being both comedian and actor on VH1 was an easy deal for Mulaney, who proved that he's good at adlibing and improv, as seen on some of his VH1's Best Week Ever clips online.
Currently, Mulaney is one of the writers for Saturday Night Live, and occasionally appears on Late Night television. He seems to love TV, which probably explains his extra long joke on "Law and Order" (but we'll get to that later).
The title of the album is named after his King Solomon's joke, about how Solomon was going to cut a child in half. Of course logic kicks in:
Mulaney is really, really funny is when he jokes about himself. From his "feminine limps" to his awkward "Ray" date to to his stupidness (from math to chasing a woman at 2am). I laugh because I identify with him.
I couldn't relate to jokes about "Law and Order" (and Jerry Orbach, who?), but I did laugh at it anyway. The especially funny "love is spelled with two eyes" movie tagline is hilarious. This is new material, check out an early evolution of the "Law & Order" jokes with barely a mention of Jerry Orbach:
You can pick up The Top Part from Comedy Central Records. If you want to hear more Mulaney jokes, head over to myspace, as he's so popular, his main website has a "Bandwidth Limit Exceeded" as of this writing.

Where I think Mulaney's material fails a little is when he starts talking about goth people and drag queens (note the clumsy transition from baby drunks to San Francisco's 'gayness'). I don't think he's insulting them, but I wouldn't be surprise if someone is offended.Who is this first woman? That's like "Yeah let's cut the baby in half! That sounds like a good idea."
Like what kind of awful bitch have just stole--she stole a baby!--and the first time she's asked about it she's like "Look, I'll take what I can get! Can I take a leg, I'll take the leg, she can have the top part."
