I think I may have been over-zealous with my Christmas explosion (I even made a mix Christmas CD for anyone interested in getting a W♥M XMAS '07).
So getting back to work, I do have a few overdued CD reviews, so here we go with the first few batches:
Fort Pastor are from Orlando, Florida, and they have an album called Beautiful Imperfection (released October 9th, 2007) out on Koch Records. I actually really like Koch, based on the artists they pick to release (such as Ian Brown and Tim Burgess), so I was kind of really happy to get this to review.
The album starts off with that distinctive Didgeridoo sound, that's because one of the band member is from Melbourne, Australia, as described Christopher Menswar:
I'm a democrat, Jeff's a republican and Jono's an Australian
They seem to be a fun trio, and guess what? They're heading out on tour this January all the way to August, so check them out if they're heading through your city.
If you're wondering where their name came from, it's mentioned in "Dawn of the Dead", where basically everyone was trying to get to Ft Pastor from the mall. I was actually inspired to put on the DVD (I have three different version of the DVD: Original Cut, Extended Cut, and the European Cut - edited by Dario Argento with Goblin on the soundtrack!) So I can tell you that you never physically saw the fort.
Anyway, I really enjoyed Fort Pastor's "Crazy" (originally written and sung by Seal). Usually I really like cover songs that's completely different from the original. This version short of have a "world" sound to it, even beatnik.
It's actually not fair to choose a cover song to represent the band, so head over to their myspace to listen to original Fort Pastor songs.
Bonus: enjoy some other "Crazy" songs.
