Kerry Politzer just recorded her second podcast, The Jazz Piano of Kerry Politzer, yesterday (Nov 21st). In her second episode, she plays some songs, ending with a song off her latest album, You Took Me In.
Politzer studied classical piano for fourteen years, but after attending a Jazz concert at Keller Hall, she decided to study jazz. After competing in various Jazz contests, she finally recorded and release her debut album, Yearning in 2001.
Looking at her discography, it would seem that critics really enjoyed Watercolor, reaching as far as the BBC (who was very keen on her Brazilian-influenced Jazz CD).
Listening to her latest CD, I was instantly drawn to "Always", which is easiest the happiest song off the album. The trumpets (played by her husband, George Colligan) was a nice touch, keeping the song really upbeat.
I also liked "I Cried Wolf", which you can hear off her myspace. EDIT: I originally thought this was the only song co-written with Kenny Lockwood (but that song is "Joseph").
You Took Me In was released October 2nd and can be bought from Amazon. If you're interested in hearing and downloading free music from Kerry Politzer, she's on CNET's Music Download.
