The Young Knives - Voices of Animals and Men
You have to wonder about the number of bands that are surfacing these days that are almost identical. Now I dont think I want to say that The Young Knives are a stand out case, because they're not. However, they have been around for many moons are have definitely not just jumped on the "indie is cool again" bandwagon..... and really... you like one of these bands, you like them all.
It's obvious these guys have been around just that bit longer than some of the other bands within the same genre, due to their more polished sounds.
They are a three piece from Ashby in the sunny East Midlands of England.
I first heard their song: She's Attracted To on the national radio station here, Triple J, and i thought... "ooh, different! and crap!" but you know, it kinda grew on me, causing me to dig a little deeper and hunt down some more of their stuff.
Voices of Animals and Men is not their first release, they released a mini album (The Young Knives.... are Dead), which didnt do so well. But.... don't worry, things are all good now. If i can buy their album in a non-specialty music shop in Sydney, they must be doing alright. Other than being yet another band that make me slightly annoyed that I cant just pop down the street to see them live...
A diverse range of songs, each as different as the next, but all worth listening the whole way through. And what's best, is a band with a sense of humour. Have a peek at the film clip for their song "The Decision"... very League of Gentlemen, the most amusingly scarily funny show i've seen....and where's Worzel Gummidge I ask!
