I saw a few movies this weekend, The Simpsons Movie being one of them. I thought the soundtrack would fall on theme creator Danny Elfman, but it seems that Hans Zimmer is the composer.
Looking at his body of work I can see that he's been around since 1982 with Moonlighting. It looks like he's working on the new Batman movie Dark Knight and have previously did the soundtrack for Batman Begins.
Just like Danny Elfman was in a rock group, Oingo Boingo, Zimmer also started his career in various rock groups, including one called The Buggles. You may have remember them as the one-hit wonder band that did the song "Video Killed the Radio Star" (1979), which was the first MTV video.
He left those bands behind to start working in film music with his mentor Stanley Myers. His big break came when he was asked to score for Rain Man (1988), which won the Oscar for Best Original Score (the film was also nominated for Best Original Score at the Academy Award).
The Oscar led him to a string of successful Hollywood movies, including The Last Samurai (2003), The Da Vinci Code (2006), The Rock (1996), The Ring (2002), Black Hawk Down (2001), and True Romance (1993). In total, Zimmer have scored over 100 films!
Anyway, this song, "Spider Pig" is a parody of the well-known 60s Spider-Man cartoon series and have been covered by many, many artists.
Is it me, but did you guys also thought of Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham? This was a Star Comics series (published by Marvel Comics). Other hilarious Marvel parodies includes: Deerdevil, Goose Rider and the Fantastic Fur.
