Bruce Springsteen - 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)

"4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)" was written by Bruce Springsteen for his 1973 album The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle. "The choir is really one female singer with lots of overdubs. Springsteen wanted to use a children's choir, but ended up using Suki Lahav. She played with the band from September 1974 - March 1975, but was not credited on the album." (songfacts.com). The English band The Hollies covered the song which appeared on their Super Hits album.

The Beach Boys - 4th of July

"4th of July" by The Beach Boys was released as part of the 1993 box set Good Vibrations: Thirty Years of The Beach Boys which is a four-disc set containing classics and rarities. It also included a bonus disc "that mixes music and vocal tracking sessions with rare live material". The song was written in 1970 by Dennis Wilson and Jack Rieley and originally intended for their album Surf's Up "as a veiled comment on the alleged suppression of the NY Times by the US government ... but was pulled by Dennis after an argument with brother Carl over sequencing the album" (source).

Galaxie 500 - Fourth of July

This song is taken from Galaxie 500's third album, This Is Our Music, which was also their last album as Galaxie 500. After their breakup, Dean Wareham went on to play for the now defunct indie rock band Luna and started the duo Dean & Britta with fellow bandmate, Britta Phillips. Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang went on to play under the name Pierre Etoile, but later changed it to simply Damon & Naomi. They were also part of the short-lived band Magic Hour and run a book publishing company called Exact Change. (link: video)

Sunday Morning - July July

This song isn't patriotic, but it's called "July July" and I thought I'd post it anyway since it's July. Anyway, Sunday Morning is a band from Cesena, Italy and comprised of five-members. They've released a free 4-song demo in 2005 under Midfinger Records, their current label. Their debut album Take These Flowers to Your Sister features the four tracks ("July July", "Ellis", "From the Basement", and "Is That Racoon Sweeter Than Me") from that EP. And just if you're wondering, they sing in English despite being from Italy.
