Los Angeles based duo JOHNNYSWIM (Amanda Sudano and Abner Ramirez) just released their cover of The Pogues’ Christmas Classic “Fairytale of New York.” The song has become a staple in JOHNNYSWIM’s holiday sets and they are thrilled to release a recording of it ahead of this year’s run of shows next month.
JOHNNYSWIM said, “We’ve been playing this song, in part, for years at holiday shows. And we’ve always been a little nervous to record it because it’s such a legendary tune. But man am I glad we finally did. When we first got done recording it, we listened to it 11 times and ultimately made ourselves just stop repeating it. The catharsis, joy and maybe a wee bit of delusional hope (“I’ve got a feeling this year’s for me and you!”) was like water and we were dying of thirst. I hope it gives you what you need and that you can drink it like water.”
The band is gearing up to release their fifth full-length studio album When The War Is Over on February 7th, 2025.

Legendary artist, filmmaker, and a founding member of post-punk group The Raincoats, Gina Birch has released a cover of Yoko Ono’s “Listen, the Snow is Falling” on Third Man Records. The track, written by Ono and recorded with the Plastic Ono Band, was originally released as the b-side of John Lennon’s 1971 single “Happy Xmas (War is Over)”.
Birch explains: “In 2023 I played a gig at Tate Britain when the brilliant Yoko Ono show was on at Tate Modern. I thought it would be great to play one of Yoko’s songs at our performance…so even though it was August, Marie Merlet, Jenny Green and I played 'Listen, the Snow is Falling.' I had been asked to write something for the Tate magazine about Yoko Ono, as well as having recently painted a full-length portrait of her for my exhibition featuring Goddesses and Inspirations at Gallery 46. As a result, I was feeling particularly connected with her in my head. We chose the song because it is haunting and beautiful and it was released as a B-side. Who doesn’t love a B-side? My bandmate Marie Merlet had the idea that we could make a recording of the song as a Christmas single. In all my time, I’ve never made a Christmas single and it seemed so appropriate. We recorded it in my basement with all three of us coming up with ideas. It was mixed by Marie and then mastered by Warren Defever at Third Man Mastering in Detroit.
“We are also releasing two very special limited editions of 10 clear vinyl discs and 30 clear plastic flexi discs made on a 1960s lathe by two artists, Nick and Dom, whom I met in Nottingham at Backlit Gallery where my 'Three Screams 1977-1997-2017' film is showing. They have a label called Pearl Home Records and have cut tracks onto flexible material usually used for making doll's house windows. I have then made special covers for each disc. The rest of you can listen on Spotify or the whoo-hoos of your choice.”
If you have a 2024 Christmas/Holiday song, please provide as much detail as possible to [email protected] before Christmas Day (December 25, 2024). Thank you.

…
We've seen these type of crowd-source music videos before, the latest is from Scottish band Belle & Sebastian for the "Nobody's Empire" video. I've criticized a few bands for doing this, mainly because I feel it's a cheap of them (I know the band can afford to produce a music video). But hey, who am I to say, as long as fans love doing this for their favorite bands... Full details of this at

They need the video clips by no later than Thursday 27th November so that we have time to edit them into the video.

Gardens & Villa recently shared a remix from multi-platinum, Grammy nominated producer N.O. Joe of "Domino" off of Gardens & Villa's Dunes, released earlier this year on Secretly Canadian.
N.O. Joe (I believe the "N.O." stands for New Orleans, because he is based out of Louisiana) has worked with everyone from Ice Cube to Lil Wayne,
and is a multi-platinum Grammy Nominated producer.
The secret origin of this collaboration about when G&V randomly met with N.O. Joe at SXSW 2014 at a late-night tacos eatery. The two became friends and out of this, the remix of "Domino".
Hear it now:
Gardens & Villa will cap off their year with a headlining show at The Echoplex in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 13.

I think this was my first time seeing The Flaming Lips, but I could be wrong. Seems odd that this was "a very special Early Evening performance", since the band's psychedelic/space rock seems to work better at night

I believe Wisconsin's Hugh Bob & The Hustle (headed by 'North Country' singer/songwriter Hugh Robert Masterson) will be appearing with Cracker this December 4th at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis. If you listened to our new podcast, you can clearly hear us singing to various Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven songs off the top of our heads.
Opening up the Minnesota show will be Hugh Bob & The Hustle, a band that's been compared to all the greats, including Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, John Prine, etc.
Check out his song "Butternut":
When Masterson play live, he's joined by The Hustle, a band comprising of bassist Nicholas Stuart, keyboardist Bradley Kruse, guitarist Quinn Scharber, and drummer Justin Krol.
Hugh Bob & The Hustle's other show will be at The Frequency in Madison on December 5, 2014.
Arrica Rose & The ... is essentially Arrica Rose, she's backed up by her band The ...'s (The Dots Dots Dots), and I'll bet that her latest album, La La Lost, is in reference to being lost in her residence of Los Angeles.
…
Remember Arrica Rose & the ...'s (The Dot Dot Dots)? They just released their latest album Wavefunction, out November 4th via pOprOck records.
The album was designed for vinyl, each side featuring a distinct mood. Rose explains, "We think of it as music for different occasions, a choose your own adventure kind of album." (Which incidentally, " Choose Your Own Adventure" one of the key creator R. A. Montgomery passed away November 9th).
Record label Razor & Tie had a breakout year at rock radio in 2014 with hits from The Pretty Reckless ("Heaven Knows" finishes the year as the #1 song at Active and Mainstream Rock), All That Remains and Starset making the label the most successful indie in the format and the second strongest rock label, second only to Warner Brothers.
One of the most ridiculous band names, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are wrapping up their UK tour in support of their latest LP I'm In Your Mind Fuzz (released November 11th on Castle Face in the US and Heavenly in the UK).
Remaining tour dates: Bodega Social Club, Nottingham (11/26) and Rough Trade East, London (12/01).

The Beatles' second film, Help!, is released on Blu-Ray and digitally on iTunes today (June 25). The digitally restored film and 5.1 soundtrack features iTunes Extras including a 30-minute documentary about making of the film - plus an appreciation by Martin Scorsese.
If you are a fan, like I am, you'll want to add this classic to your collection, along with 2012's Blu-Ray releases of Yellow Submarine and Magical Mystery Tour.
I am assuming you get all the bonus features of the iTunes version as you do with the Blu-Ray, so here is a listing of what's included:
• “The Beatles in Help!†– a 30-minute documentary about the making of the film with Richard Lester, the cast and crew, including exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of The Beatles on-set.
• “A Missing Scene†– a film outtake, featuring Wendy Richard
• “The Restoration of Help!†– an in-depth look at the restoration process
• “Memories of Help!†– the cast and crew reminisce
• 1965 Theatrical Trailers – two original U.S. trailers and one original Spanish trailer
• 1965 U.S. Radio Spots (hidden in menus)

"The Beatles are Coming to Taos" is the name of a photographic exhibit at the David Anthony Fine Art (DAFA) in Taos, New Mexico.
The exhibit is happening in the month of August (Aug. 2–30), with an emphasis on Mike Mitchell's photographs of the Beatles during their 1964 performance in Washington, DC (two days after their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show).
With the limitation of photographic technology back in that time period, Mitchell was forced to use his instinct in capturing the Beatles without flash and not knowing if any of his photos would turn out without developing the negatives.
Many of the stills used in "The Beatles Illuminated: the Discovered Works of Mike Mitchell" will be featured at the DAFA exhibit.
Details below:
The Annual DAFA Photography Invitational will host an opening reception on August 2, 2013, and the show will run through August 30, 2013. On August 3, Mike Mitchell will give a free talk and take questions in the Arthur Bell Auditorium at the Harwood Museum of Art. David Anthony Fine Art is located at 132 Kit Carson Road, Taos, NM.
