In today's landscape, bands don't necessary need a major label to fund their recording - they can take it directly to their fans. My favorite is when you get very unique items from these campaigns. Plus, you know your money is going directly to your favorite band.
Read More Britpop The second part of the show is all about British magazines. We touch on some of these: Select Magazine, Q Magazine, Vox, NME, Melody Maker, The Face, Word, Uncut Magazine, Mojo, and a few other music-focused magazine. ....

NORTHERN UPROAR
northernuproar.com
We love our Britpop, it's always good to report when bands of that time period is having a second go at it.
Northern Uproar formed and broke up as soon as they started (1995-1997), but about five years ago they released Stand and Fight.
They are hoping to get funding to record a fourth coming studio album via PledgeMusic.com.
They are donating 5% of all profits, after costs are met, will go to Multiple Sclerosis Society UK.
I really hate how PledgeMusic calculate dates for me. It said there are 93 days left. For those that can't do math, like me, the final deadline is 2/8/2013, so you got some time for pre-ordering. No cover artwork given this far in advance, so the image I'm using is a mock cover.

We are excited to say we are about to record our Fourth Studio Album . We have been busy writing all year and now we feel it’s time to get in a Studio and let it happen.
We were blown away by everyone’s support on last years Live Acoustic Album and so we have decided to work with the great people at PledgeMusic again , in a world of corporate greed it feels great to be independent and doing what we love because, well, we love it !!
As well as a CD of the Album (and Download) you will have chance to get some goodies to go with it, check them out in the exclusives section..
We hope you will support us and join us on the trip, along the way there will exclusive updates from the Studio, the rehearsal room and probably various pubs!, including performances of the songs as we chop and change them into an Album..
This is gonna be the one …

WEINLAND
weinlandmusic.com
Portland's Weinland is back with Los Processaur, released yesterday (November 6th) via Woodphone Records.
The album was funded by a successful Kickstarter, which exceeded their $8k goal for recording.
For $1,500 a couple of hardcore fans got a private live show from the band, as well as their name printed on the liner notes and a box set of the album.
Check out the video to "The Eagle" on pastemagazine.com. Stream the entire album at Spinner/AOL.
There's no details of a tour in support of the new album, but they are doing a "New Year's Eve Super Group" in Portland, Oregon on December 31st.

PERSONA NON GRATA
junkture.com
"Persona Non Grata: A Story of Junkture" is the new book by Stephanie Quinn Jackson.
Normally I don't really cover books, but I am told that one of the characters in the book (Alex Wheeler) is a lead singer of the fictional band Junkture… and that "music plays a huge role in the book."
You can read more about the book on www.junkture.com, or check out the Kickstarter project:
Backers can get advance copies of the book as well as T-Shirts and very limited canvas artwork reproduction. Funding ends: Nov 25, 2012, so you still have this month to get in on the action.

Persona Non Grata: A Story of Junkture is the tale of Tierney Cavanaugh Johnson, a painter and mom living outside of Atlanta. In her late 30s, Tierney wakes one day to discover that she's tired--of being a mom, of being a wife, of being fat. She realizes she's lost sight of the uninhibited, unconventional girl she was before marriage and motherhood. Her journey to reclaim her true self artistically, physically, and emotionally, draws her into the orbit of her favorite rock band, Junkture, and its charismatic lead singer. Through a series of unlikely events, her selves converge—past, present, and future fighting each other to remind her who she's supposed to be.
These characters of Tierney Cavanaugh and Alex Wheeler were started in my mind years ago, though they didn't start to really see paper until early 2006. Originally they were young, in their early 20s, and had a completely different set of adventures than are portrayed in Persona Non Grata.

HERE WE GO MAGIC
herewegomagicband.tumblr.com
We got to interview Here We Go Magic a few years ago, so I'm always happy to come back and support the band.
The band will be releasing LIVE EP via PledgeMusic, to help fund their European tour, which is starting today (November 7th).
Obviously the EP isn't out yet and there's no preliminary artwork, so I'm using the cover artwork to their last album, A Different Ship.

NATALY DAWN
youtube.com
Nonesuch Records is releasing How I Knew Her, from Nataly Dawn, on January 22, 2013. Prior to signing to Nonesuch, Dawn had already raised over $100k on Kickstarter to make How I Knew Her.
If you never heard of Nataly Dawn, she is from the duo Pomplamoose, whose music can be heard on national television advertisements for Hyundai and Toyota. I came across Dawn because I was working on my cover lover for White Stripe's "Seven Army Nation," and Dawn does a pretty awesome cover version on her active youtube channel. What's unique is she plays all the music tracks by hands. Plus: really great voice.
Again, no cover artwork for How I Knew Her was given. I'm just using a photograph of her at a church.

TIFF JIMBER
tiffjimber.com
With just seven days left to go (project ends November 14th, 2012), Tiff Jimber's Kickstarter project is very close to close out the project: she just needs $800 to meet the $9,500 goal.
If the project is funded, she will donate 10% of proceeds to The Red Cross of Seaside Heights, NJ--Sandy Relief. To clarify, the money is actually her personal funds and not actual Kickstarter money.
Some of the items is very interesting, for instance, you can play an instrument (or handclap if you can't play) on the recording of a song.
