...Thanks for throwing something out there for the dance music lovers. (You know you're out there!)
For the dance music lovers, iiO releases over 15 remixes of "Rapture" on Reconstruction Disk (see most of the track listing on their press release).
Let's face it: if you ever liked "Rapture", this is the collection for you. It collects all the hard-to-find and rare remixes of the song (from b-sides of 12" and from various compilations) so you don't have to work at finding them all - it's all right here on two CDs.
Besides from the great packaging (see video towards the end), there's actually an added bonus of two "Rapture" music videos. I've decided to include the video, so you can listen to the original mix of the song and video.
iiO are basically producer Markus Moser and vocalist Nadia Ali, whose band name was actually Vaiio (named after their Sony VAIO laptop) but they had changed it to avoid any potential lawsuits. They had a massive dance hit with "Rapture" in 2001, but their debut - and only - album didn't happen until 2005... but by then Ali had decided to leave the band to pursue a solo career.
It's really too bad that Ali won't be singing for iiO, but it does leave some opportunities for Moser to work with a variety of singers... so the future for iiO should be a bright one.
All the new remixes are found on the first disc, with two tracks from five DJs.
The Starkillers provides the radio-friendly tracks (both under 3½ minutes), while the Hardware and Friscia & Lamboy remixes were obviously meant for the dance floor - providing a lot of beats.
The slowest mix in the bunch is probably Lametta's Made2Chill Remix, which removed the dance beats and focused on the Nadia Ali vocals.
In fact, all the remixes retained some or all of Ali vocals, even in the "dub" mixes (which typically removes all traces of the vocals). This just shows you what an iconic singing from Ali, that I've decided to include "Kiss You" from their Poetica to showcase her great voice.
Reconstruction Disk is out now on Made Records.
