In honor of the Transformers movie coming out July 3rd, I am spotlighting on the famous Transformers Theme song.
The original theme was written by Anne Bryant. She was the head writer and music director for Kinder & Bryant, a music production company from 1983-1990. They provided music and jingles for Hasbro, who was making cartoons such as G.I.Joe and Transformers.
According to Nicky's Transformers Music & Media Site, she had misread the instructions and sang "Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the decepticons", whereas it was meant be spoken by the announcer.
By the time the movie came out in 1986, the main theme was reworked by the American metal band, Lion (not to be confused with another metal band, White Lion). Looking at their time line I can see that they started in 1983 and ultimately split up in October 1989... releasing their albums mostly in Japan (everybody is big in Japan!).
The latest band to do the theme song is Mutemath. Sampling the songs on transformersalbum.com, I can't say that I'm too crazy for any of the songs on the new soundtrack.
Notable Covers::
• Australia's Meatbee covered the theme song. Only it's acoustic and with a woman singing, you can download on their website. The Transformers people approached them to do a new version (electric) version of the theme song, and after they recorded it, Warner Brothers refused it. Read more details on their website or on cover lover.
• Black Lab did "Transformers" for their Technologie album. I think they're just cashing in, since they're not officially linked to Michael Bay's film.
• Eddie Dee sampled the "Tranformers" robot speaking part in his song "Transformers". It's more of a rap song than a reggae song (it's off a reggae compilation).
