Time to Take Back Your Life!

Multi-platinum Chicago band Disturbed is out on the current 23-date leg of their North American Take Back Your Life Tour which kicked off in their native Illinois just over a week ago. We (literallly) jumped at the chance to visually document the recent Kansas City stop at the T-Mobile Center.

Last summer’s tour of the same name was their most successful tour to date (according to Billboard), bringing in $17.4 million across 336,000 tickets sold. Their most recent and eighth studio album is “Divisive”, released late last year, featuring lead single, “Hey You”.

Falling In Reverse is the still-rising Las Vegas band formed by Ronnie Radke back in 2008 and whose latest planned release was supposed to be the Neon Zombie EP, but the band decided to split the five songs into individual singles instead, leading with single, “Zombified”.

Plush is a somewhat new all-female foursome led by singer/songwriter/guitarist Moriah Formica, who actually auditioned on NBC’s “The Voice” at age 16. Their debut single, “Hate” garnered the complete opposite of that from fans, and one of Formica’s idols is Heart’s Ann Wilson, as evidenced by their ferocious cover of “Barracuda.”

Australian four-piece The Jungle Giants (singer/guitarist Sam Hales, lead guitarist Cesira Aitken, bassist Andrew Dooris, and drummer Keelan Bijker) headlined the Turf Club in St Paul, in support of their fourth album Love Signs (Amplifire).

Opening up the show was Los Angeles’ Tim Atlas, along with Dena on bass, and Zack on drums. You may have seen Atlas on NBC’s The Voice in 2015, as he cover Ed Sheeran, The Neighborhood and Ednaswap. Since then he opened up for Magic City Hippies, even stopping by St Paul in Feb 2020.

Best song on Atlas’ brief 35-min set was “Honeycomb”, a really catchy, ‘sweet’ dancey song.

We’ve been interested in Brisbane’s The Jungle Giants since their team-up with our favorite Australian band San Cisco in Feb 2012.

W♥M saw them on the “Politely Awkward” tour, at the Spectrum, in Sydney, Australia, and wrote, “While both bands were certainly polite, there was no awkwardness to be found when The Jungle Giants and San Cisco joined forces again at Spectrum last Saturday as they continue their tour of Australia. Although the bands are youngsters, both in terms of age of their members and the age of the band themselves, the quality of performances was such that it was unclear who was the supporting band (assuming you could have a support act that comes after the main act). The Jungle Giants performed known and new material, with frontman Sam Hales and bassist Andrew Dooris making the most of the tiny space that is Spectrum. Dooris managed to be everywhere at once and still play his instrument, while Hales delivered lyrics with precision and feeling.”

We’ve seen San Cisco nine times and the Jungle Giants zero times… so we’re almost sure they’ve never played in the Minneapolis/St Paul area.

Since 2019, the Jungle Giants had quiet a few highly rated songs on Triple J’s Hottest 100, including “Heavy Hearted” and “Sending Me Ur Loving”, both on their set near the end and the best known song as the encore finale.

The Jungle Giants’ Love Signs is out now on Amplifire Records. The album was #1 on the Australia charts, and came out during the pandemic.

Boise’s Built to Spill is back on a long 2019 tour… stopping by First Avenue’s main room on June 26. The band’s last album called Untethered Moon came out in 2015 via Warner Bros. Records.

Minneapolis-based indie rock trio Porcupine (which includes Hüsker Dü bass-player Greg Norton), with Orua and Clarke And The Himselfs to open.

We saw Porcupine in March 2019 and wrote, “Evolving forward from a late ‘80s/‘90s indie-rock sound of Swervedriver meets QOTSA, the trio is out in support of latest six-song record, What You’ve Heard Isn’t Real (on Dead Broke Rekerds/DC-Jam) and recent lead single, ‘Lifetime’.”

Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant has reunited for their annual popular Christmas tour. This year, the two will be bringing The Voice winner Jordan Smith.

Smith and Grant also wants to raise awareness for “Operation Christmas Child”, a charity known for distributing over 135 million shoeboxes of Christmas gifts to children in need in 150 countries.

Chicago’s Ministry will be headlining the Skyway Theatre this Saturday. For many years, original singer (and currently only the original band member) Al Jourgensen said that a band reunion would never happen... but the band did re-unite for the Wacken Open Air festival in August 2012. After a year of touring for their new album Relapse in 2012, long time guitarist Mike Scaccia passed away. Cesar Soto (former member of Pissing Razors) is their current guitarist.

If you grew up in the 90s, when industrial metal genre was starting out, you would have loved Ministry, alongside Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, and many other bands in this genre.

The upcoming Skyway Theatre is described as the First Annual Minneapolis Toxic Air Festival and the event starts at noon! It’s more bang for the buck, but I’ve never heard of a fan enduring 12 hours of music mayhem! Most fans will likely arrive around 8pm, in time to catch Otep, Mushroomhead, and headliner Ministry.

Karen Meat & the Computer’s new four-song On the Couch 7” is out now on Sump Pump Records and as a baby pink cassette thru Sad Club Records in the UK.

The Voice star and YouTube sensation 22-year-old singer Christina Grimmie was murdered last night, during an autograph signing at The Plaza Live in Orlando, Florida. Grimmie’s brother Mark Grimmie (from the band Before You Exit) immediately tackled the unidentified gunman, who then shot and killed himself during the struggle.

We previously caught Grimmie as opener to Selena Gomez in 2013. Although young 19 years old at the time, we wrote that she knew “know how to perform and work the crowd, particularly getting the audience to help her with ‘Absolutely Final Goodbye.’”

A gofundme.com was setup by her management team to give to the family during this trying time.

The Voice's Top 5 contestant Kat Perkins has a four night residency over at the Plymouth Playhouse on December 13 and 22. If you're not familiar with the area, Plymouth is west of Golden Valley and south of Maple Grove.
