Hungry like the Wolf

Maggie is in love with Patrick Wolf, it's a shame that she doesn't live in the UK, as it looks like he'll be touring in support of his new album, Lupercalia, released on June 20th.

I don't have the album, but I did read about it - apparently it was called The Conqueror as part of his double-album Battle. The tile and concept was changed to Lupercalia because Wolf thinks his songs are mostly about love pop songs:

"The title refers to the Lupercalia festival, which is the ancient fertility and love festival that happens around Valentine's Day. I strive to be original – it's one of my biggest ambitions. There can be nothing worse sometimes than a soppy love record – imagine if I'd called it To Love: Patrick Wolf!"

Fans will want to look for a special deluxe edition of Lupercalia. See him on tour this year:

LOS LOBOS

Los Lobos (which means "The Wolves" in Spanish) are a multiple Grammy Award–winning rock band. They've been around since the late 70s and their music is a blend of Mexicana and American rock.

Los Lonely Boys will be touring with Los Lobos until August 10th, but it's a really good lineup, especially because the two band have a similar Latin-Rock-Soul sound to them. Since Los Lonely Boys' debut in 2003, they've been selling millions of records and singles, and even playing and recording music with legendary performers like Willie Nelson and Carlos Santana. Look for Los Lonely Boys' latest album, Rockpango, if you see them on tour.

THE REAL TUESDAY WELD

I actually really love The Real Tuesday Weld, I gave his last album The London Book of the Dead a terrific review. If you've never heard of this guy, Stephen Coates, takes old 1930s records and put electronic beats to them, creating what he calls "Antique Beats". It's great, I love it.

The Real Tuesday Weld's latest album is called The Last Werewolf, released July 12th via Six Degrees Records. The sample song they sent out is called "Me and Mr Wolf".

The latest news from Southern Lords Recordings is that they are putting the final touches on their fourth album, Celestial Lineage. All details and tour dates can be found here. The information I got was that they are "an experimental electronic group into a mature band with a strong sense of pop melody. The song sent to me is "Tell Me Why" from their upcoming EP. Band Names: Inspired naming of bands such as The Sundays (actually maybe they were named after the ice cream treat?), Pale Sunday, and Sunday Morning. Songs: There are a ton of Sunday songs, probably some of the more famous songs are "Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2 and "Everyday is Like Sunday" by Morrissey. I'm going to go with Of Montreal's "Everyday Feels Like Sunday", which at first I thought was a cover of Morrissey, but, in fact, is not.

Monday From old English, meaning "Day of the Moon" (kind of an oxymoron if you ask me!) Band Names: The Happy Mondays, Monday Morning (NC band), and Monday Massacre (Screamo band) Songs: Some famous Mondays songs includes "I Don't Like Mondays" by the Boomtown Rats and "Monday Morning" by Fleetwood Mac and "Monday, Monday" by the Mammas and the Pappas. I'm going to go with "Blue Monday" by New Order. It's a great song to start the week.

(God of Combat) Band Names: Til Tuesday, The Real Tuesday Weld and Tuesday (From Austria) Songs: I don't have too many Tuesday song, the choices I have are Metallica's "Tuesday's Gone" and The Acid House Kings' "Mondays are like Tuesday" and The Moody Blues' "Tuesday Afternoon". Since I don't want to be sued by Lars, we're going to have to go with AHK.  We've already mentioned AHK several times now.

Songs: Some "Thursday songs by Asobi Seksu, Cranes, and The Futureheads. I'm going to go to an 60s band called The Millenium with their song "To Claudia on Thursday".

Friday Hill - Running Away

Friday From old English, named after Frige (German goddess of beauty). In Norse, it's Frigg and in Roman it's Venus (Spanish Friday is "Viernes" and French is "Vendredi", both named after Venus). Band Names: Radiohead's previous incarnation is called On a Friday, but otherwise, I don't really know any Friday-named band. I've settled for Friday Hill which is a UK pop group. Songs: Lily Allen has "Friday Night", while the more popular song is probably the Easybeat's "Friday on My Mind". However, the ultimate Friday song goes to the Cure: "Friday I'm in Love", their most poppiest song!

Saturday Looks Good to Me - Meet Me By The Water

Saturday From old English, named after Saturn, the God, not the car. Band Names: Saturday Looks Good to Me is really the only band that I know that has Saturday in their name. Songs: I have a ton of Saturday songs. Suede, Punky Brewsies, Killswitch, and Kaiser Chief both have "Saturday Night" song titles. Apparently this is the most popular day of the week, judging from song list. I'll have to go with the classic "Drive In Saturday" by David Bowie.

The Real Tuesday Weld - I Believe The Real Tuesday Weld - Cloud Cuckooland

Dubbed as "Antique Beats", The Real Tuesday Weld is the most original sound I've come across in a while! It's hard to explain the sound, but just think of it as basically taking 1930s records and transformed them into modern songs. That's exactly what the UK-based band does.

Even stranger is the origin of the band: frontsman, Stephen Coates, started his band based on a dream he had meeting actress Tuesday Weld and Al Bowlly.

I'm including two different songs from them to represent their sound, from The London Book Of The Dead, which was released today^[1].

There's a ton of other really strong songs on the new record, but I'm limited to just choosing a few songs for you guys. The first song I've picked out is "I Believe". It has a wonderful hook and features Coates on vocals. The other song sounds like there's two or three different records mixed together. Both songs are simply fantastic.

Doing research, I found out that their early releases are completely out of print and are extremely hard to find. "Used" prices tend to be in the $50 range. Clicking on the discography link will take you to the various record companies that put out their records.

The Real Tuesday Weld also appeared as the alternative soundtrack to 1947's Dreams Money Can Buy DVD, but unfortunately was released in the UK only^[2]. However, you can always get a region-free player.
