The Magic Whispers are Ana Laan and Natalia Farrán, but their stage names are Rita Calypso and Bathing Beauty. Although their record label is based out of Madrid, Spain, all their songs are in English. They released two albums, Yin Yang (2003) and an all-covers record called Carousels & Music Boxes (Dec 2006).
Since there's no wikipedia or official websites, I couldn't dig up any informtion on Farran, I just know she lives in Madrid. I did find a bit on Ana Laan, who was born in Madrid, but was raised in Stockholm, Sweden. She later returned to the city of her birth to finish her secondary education. I can draw my own conclusion, that is where she met Farran and started The Magic Whispers.
It looks like Laan has a pretty healthy solo career. She's fluent in English, Swedish, and Spanish, and showcased her sophomore album, Chocolate and Roses (2006) at SXSW, as part of the KUT-sponsored World music stage. She's back in Spain now, but had spent 2006 in New York.
Here's a break down of the obscure original artists and the song that appears on Carousels & Music Boxes:
1. Carl Sigman - Ballerina 2. Hot Rain - Someone Else's Love 3. My Guru Says - Sally and John 4. Po! - Appleseed Alley 5. Fantastic Something - Drawing Rooms 6. ??? - Amusement Park 7. The Hit Parade - Groovy Heart Attack 8. The Impossibles - Meet Me Again 9. Carole King para The Shirelles - Will You Love Me Tomorrow? |
