I previously mentioned that I’ve seen Danish indie rock duo The Raveonettes at at least twice (I’m almost certain I’ve seen them prior to 2007, because I was listening to Whip It On in 2002 and would have likely seen them on that tour (if they toured at all).
Looking online, the duo did appear in Minneapolis in 2004, but they opened for The Strokes, who were MASSIVE during this time with their album Is This It. I know people in my group, all of them were into The Strokes. I have that album, it’s a very good album. I did not see the Strokes, because the show sold out very quickly.
At the Triple Rock Social Club show, this would have been on an official capacity… meaning I got permission to take photos. Plus, by this time, I’ve gotten to know the Triple Rock’s door man, Pete.
The 2012 tour was in support of their then-new sixth album Observator (Vice Records). Talking about that album, the band said “I’ve always worked like that. I try to channel [drinking] into something creative. I write down simple words for lyrics, song titles, anything. Or it can be actual stories. The whole idea with the album title — and the song ‘Observations’ — came because I feel like I was sort of like out there observing myself and other people and what goes on around me.”
Opening the Triple Rock show was French singer Melody Prochet, or rather her stagename Melody’s Echo Chamber. She was previously known as My Bee’s Garden, as main support for Tame Impala on their UK tour in 2010. Around this time, she started a new project with Kevin Parker, to become what we know as Melody’s Echo Chamber.
On this tour, she still hadn’t released her debut album, which came out a year later and hit #61 on the US Billboard Heatseekers Album Chart.
Melody’s Echo Chamber’s “lost album” album Unfold came out in 2022. It was originally her second album, but due to her rocky relationship with Kevin Parker, the album just simply “didn’t make it through the process.”

Opening up was Melody's Echo Chamber, a band from Paris, France. I have to say, I love dreampop and what Melody's Echo Chamber has going for them is singer Melody Prochet's melodic vocals. Sometime the background vocals from their bassist lend themselves to sounding like old-school Lush, so I would throw them in the shoegazing bus as well.
Their brief setlist included everything on their debut self-titled album, which you can hear on NPR.org. Set list in correct order: "Endless Shore", "Mount Hopeless", "You Won't Be Missing That Part of Me", "Bisou Magique", "Some Time Alone, Alone", "Quand Vas Tu Rentrer?", "I Follow You" and ended their set with "Crystallized."
The Raveonettes recently released their new album, Observator (September 11th), on Vice Records, and it's the reason they're on tour.
As you can see from the setlist, most of the songs are from the new album ("Sinking With the Sun", "She Owns the Streets", "The Enemy", "Curse the Night", and "Young and Cold"), but since they did a great job on mixing up the set with previous materials.
Personally the highlight for me was their one-two punch of "Attack of the Ghost Riders" and "Beat City." These songs were my two favorite tracks off of Whip it On, which was the first album I bought from them.
