Swans is headlining the Fine Line Music Café in Minneapolis on September 20, 2023.

The band is touring in support of their sixteenth studio album, The Beggar (Mute / Young God Records). The record was recorded and mixed at Candy Bomber Studio, Berlin, engineered by Ingo Krauss and mastered by Doug Henderson at Micro-Moose, Berlin. The album was written and produced by Michael Gira and features contributions from recent and former Swans, members of Angels of Light, as well as Guest Swan Ben Frost.

New album, Medicine (Magnolia Records) came out at the beginning of the year, and the album continues to gain momentum with the band’s constant touring.”

The rebel himself, Billy Idol announced his remixed and remastered Christmas album Happy Holidays, out now for the first time on vinyl and streaming platforms via Dark Horse Records. The new version is packed with new artwork and available for purchase on black vinyl, CD, digital and on limited edition white vinyl.

If you didn’t know, Dark Horse Records (no relations to Dark Horse Comics), is a newly relaunched record label. Originally created in 1974 George Harrison (you know, of The Beatles), but it is now run by Dhani Harrison and David Zonshine. Other artists on the new label includes Joe Strummer and Ravi Shankar.

Dhani Harrison (George’s son) is an Idol fan, commenting, “I couldn’t be more excited to welcome Billy Idol to the Dark Horse Records family. Billy is a legend, and his music couldn’t fit the Dark Horse persona any better. I’ve loved his music throughout my whole life, so to be able to give this new music a home on our historic label is a massive honour.”

Be sure to check out Idol live at the Palace Theatre, in St Paul, on December 5th, with Steve Stevens, as part of their “Turned On, Tuned In, and Unplugged” acoustic tour.

New York’s Human Impact (featuring Jim Coleman from Cop Shoot Cop, Chris Spencer from Unsane, Chris Pravdica from Swans and Phil Puleo from Cop Shoot Cops) will stop by the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis on December 6th, as part of their tour for their debut album (which came out at the eve of the COVID pandemic).

Singer Coleman adds, “After our debut album being released on the eve of pandemic lockdown, we are extremely happy to finally get out and start doing some live shows. We love our recorded material, but Human Impact is meant to be experienced live and in person. This fall US tour will kick off an ongoing effort to tour through the US and Europe through 2021 and 2022.”

After Chairlift broke up in 2017, lead singer Caroline Polachek decided to strike out on her own with her debut record Pang in 2019. True confession: for a long time, I thought the band was called Super Fury Animals.

Welsh psychedelic rock band Super Furry Animals is back on tour. Although their lead singer/songwriter Gruff Rhys has been to Minneapolis numerous times, SFA’s last Minneapolis show was at the Varsity Theater on February 15, 2008. As you know, I famously do not attend shows in the Winter... so we’re super excited to see SFA here in the Summer.

The July dates are actually rescheduled from their previous May tour dates - which were lost due to the last minute cancellation of the Levitation Festival.

The last time I saw the band, they played at Coachella in 1999 and pointed and dedicated ‘Mountain People’ to the mountains.

Anyway, although SFA’s re-issued Mwng recently, it’s probably not heavily promoted in the USA on account that the album is exclusively in Welsh. The band’s last album Dark Days/Light Years came out in 2009.

As of this writing, no opening band is listed.

The touring band currently features original singer/guitarist Michael Gira, original guitarist Norman Westberg, guitarist Christoph Hahn (from mid-period Swans-era), drummer Phil Puleo (from Swans’ final tour-era), bassist Chris Pravdica, and keys Paul Wallfisch.

The tour may be a last ‘Swan song’ for the band, as after this current tour, singer Gira said, “I’ll continue to make music under the name Swans, with a revolving cast of collaborators… touring will definitely be less extensive.”

Nashville based recording artist Alice Peacock will be in Minneapolis at the Dakota Jazz Club on November 2nd. We caught her show in 2010 and noted that it felt like a comfortable house show, full of friends of family... possibly due to her strong ties with Minnesota, because she grew up in White Bear Lake in Minnesota.

From my understanding, Peacock has written and ready to record a new album, set for Summer 2015. Look for a record release party at the Space in Evanston.

I've said it before, but I had a blast at Quintron and Miss Pussycat in 2010 at the Triple Rock Social Club. We tried to cover their show last year, but unfortunately it didn't happen (we saw another animal band, Noah and the Whale at the Varsity Theater on October 8, 2013 instead).

So, anyway, after three years of random singles and a Grammy nomination for songwriting ("Chatterbox" 2012), Quintron's debut LP Spellcaster II: Death In Space is out today (October 28th).

Anyway, expect a live puppet show with Miss Pussycat at the upcoming Turf Club show. Opening up for the show in St Paul is New Orleans' Babes (not to be confused with Los Angeles' Babes) and local band Honeystick.
