We saw Portrayal of Guilt in Aug 2023 and wrote, “Portrayer of Guilt finished off the evening with an impressive set. NPR described their music in a November 2018 article as: “… hardcore, noise, grindcore, death metal, powerviolence and turn-of-the-century scream…” (The album being reviewed was Let Pain Be Your Guide.) They are based out of Austin, Texas with Matt King on guitars and vocals, Blake Given on bass and James Beveridge on drums.”

Mark Sultan (of The King Khan + BBQ Show) writes:

These upcoming shows are a change for me. I will be playing my set in two formats, as one performance: the traditional one-man band act, as well as standing, and playing against a set of pre-recorded versions of songs (me at home using live drums and Farfisa). Fans can hear reimagined versions of songs they may know. Added to this are covers, as well as new songs, some of which were meant for a never-recorded King Khan & BBQ Show LP. With that band on hiatus, this will be the only way to get that fix, I suppose. And none of these new songs will be released. Fans will only be able to hear these live at the shows. Those fans might also be interested to know that the set will feature songs from my other bands (Ding-Dongs, Almighty Defenders, Les Sexareenos, Spaceshits, etc…).

I’m snapping out of a looong battle with anxiety, depression, and health stuff, and am very excited to have a great time, and to see everyone.

We saw Mark in Aug 2016 and wrote, “Sultan, dressed in a L.A.M.F. shirt (the only studio album by The Heartbreakers) and eyeball headdress, he started his 50-min set with ‘I'll Be Lovin’ You’, followed by ‘I Wanna Be The Only One’... as the night continues the music stopped suddenly: “Is everyone alright? I’m not a good musician, but I love playing music,” Sultan said, interrupting right in the middle of ‘Beautiful Girl’ (which sounded like it was inspired by The Beach Boys). Then minutes later, after fixing some hitch, he continued with an extended version of that song.”

We saw the band in Sep 2023 and wrote, “Presumably to show their appreciation to their tour openers (and maybe an inside joke we didn’t all get) Quarters of Change emerged for their main set, all wearing “I Heart NEF” white t-shirts, and they would bring the opener back on stage to help with the set-closing, “T Love” (an ode to the very relatable idea of ‘tough love’) so we think it was a genuine friendship formed between the two acts. In addition to the upcoming album, the Lower-East-Side quartet recently released a deluxe version of their last full-length, Into the Rift and they consist of Ben Acker, Attila Anrather, Jasper Harris, and Ben Roter, whose sound is influenced by classic bands like The Beatles and The Who, as well as more recent alternative acts, RHCP and their own NYC cohorts, The Strokes.”

Of course, we’re massive Belle & Sebastian fans. The Glasow band is touring in support of their new album Late Developers, and they’ll be headlining First Avenue on May 8, 2024.

We last saw the band in May 2022 and wrote, “The return to the Palace on May 27th also marked another special occasion, as they celebrated one of their crewman, Johnny Lang’s 50th birthday. They actually even planned on having him sing The Rolling Stones’ “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” (after a few shots of whiskey, of course). It was quite an eventful night. Also, it’s worth noting that Sarah Martin was absent in the band, due to contracting COVID. She’s replaced by violinist/backup vocalist Kristen, at least that’s what I heard singer Stuart Murdoch say on stage.”

The last time we heard from Los Angeles’ Best Coast was that they’ve released an EP called Live At World Cafe (Concord Records).

The duo (Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno) will be touring in 2022, stopping by the Fine Line in Minneapolis, with Rosie Tucker. Tucker (they/them) is touring in support Sucker Supreme (Epitaph Records).

Austin’s Lomelda (the musical project of Hannah Read) announced her 2022 tour with Alex Alone (stylized as alexalone). The month-long tour kicks off in Phoenix on January 8, and will stop by Minneapolis on January 19 at the 7th Street Entry.

Last year, Lomelda released the critically acclaimed Hannah, which was named ‘Best New Music’ by Pitchfork
