Austin five-piece The Deer is currently on tour in support of their new album The Beautiful Undead, available now on Keeled Scales.

Val Son to open. We saw the band in July 2016 and said, “Starting of the night was Val Son (Michael Gunvalson, Eric Carlson, Emily Mohrbacher, and Jack Ventimiglia). Their set was very relaxing and enjoyable, songs like ‘On The Range’ and ‘Out of Nowhere’ were very good. Their sound is awesome, especially when their voices come together. It is like candy leaving you, you just want more. I look forward to seeing them live again. My personal favorite was listening to ‘Beautiful Child’, which I thought was the best of the set. They have their single out on iTunes called ‘Sundays’.”

Toronto rock band Metric is back on tour in support of their eight studio album Formentera.

Secret Machines will open for Metric, starting with Asheville on 9/24, and ending with a stop in Brooklyn on 10/27. This is the band's first time touring together in over 12 years.

Riot grrrls/girl grunge band L7 is celebrating the 30th anniversary of their breakthrough third album Bricks Are Heavy with a special tour.

The tour kicks off Oct 3… and will stop in at First Avenue on October 17th.

What you can expect is that the band will play the entire record from start to finish. If you love the record, this is the must-see show of the year.

You can also pick up the Bricks Are Heavy reissue from Licorice Pizza Records… set to release later this month.

Fea will be opening the Minneapolis show.

After a completely sold-out North American tour run earlier this year, Canadian band Rare Americans is back on tour in support of their new album You're Not A Bad Person, It's Just A Bad World (Empire Records).

I am very pleased to have Secret Machines' self-titled album for review. Their third album dropped their third album last Tuesday, October 14^th.

During the height of their popularity, after the release of their sophomore album, Ten Silver Drops in 2006 on Reprise Records, the band played with Foo Fighters, U2, and Oasis. That leads me to believe that the band's early sound was more rock than on their latest self-titled.

On first listen, the album uses a lot of distortion and experimental guitar playing to make me think that they are prog rock, who borrows from My Bloody Valentine and Spiritualized (whom they actually have shared stages with).

I think the best and easily accessible song on this album is the leading track, "Atomic Heels". It has nice pacing, especially when singer Brandon Curtis sings, "why don't you lift them up and see what's beneath your atomic heels?". I love the vocals and guitars on this song too, it sounds like it's from the 80s.

If you like epic progressive rock, you might really enjoy the long guitar and drums on "Have I Run Out" or the weird trippy lyrics to "The Walls Are Starting to Crack". Check it out:

Each song is more epic than the last, until you've reached the end with "The Fire Is Waiting" with an ultimate 11-minute long guitar jam with very minimum lyrics. It sounds all very Pink Floyd-esque, and if you like that sort of thing, definitely give Secret Machines a try.

Their self-titled album is out now on World's Fair. If you like "Atomic Heels", the good news is you can actually download the song from their label. Also, you can find them currently on tour.
