Ghost Funk Orchestra
with Rudy De Anda
at Turf Club
first-avenue.com
Ghost Funk Orchestra is touring in support of their third album,
A New Kind of Love (Karma Chief / Colemine Records).
This is a rather large band, according to their live lineup: Seth Applebaum on guitar/bandleader, Billy Aukstik on trumpet, Jeremy Stoddard Carroll on bass, Stephen Chen on baritone sax, Mario Gutierrez on drums, Romi Hanoch on vocals, Megan Mancini also on vocals, James Kelly on trombone, Joshua Park on guitar, and Brian Plautz on flute/sax.
Just on logistic reasons, I do not think they are bringing the entire horns section… but since they are the Ghost Funk Orchestra, perhaps they’ll play in spirit (in the form of a tape player).
California’s
Rudy De Anda will open the show. He’s touring in support of his new LP
Closet Botanist (due out April 28, 2023, on Colemine/Karma Chief Records). Rudy De Anda previously opened for
Chicano Batman.

Winter will open. We saw her in
Oct 2015 and noted, “Up next was Los Angeles-based Winter (not to be confused with UK's Winter or UK brother/duo Winter)…. This dream pop/shoegaze group is led by singer/guitarist Samira Winter, along with guitarist Matt Hogan, bassist David Yorr, and drummer Garren Orr. The first thing Winter did was encouraged everyone at the show to stand up. Their 30-min set featured songs about relationship, addiction (to love), drugs, tattoos, "typical" teenagers, and, of course, the California sun (which was missing on this slushy snow night).”

Transviolet is back in the Twin Cities… this after being away for two years, “locked themselves in studios across the purgatory that is the San Fernando Valley” and gaining
Katy Perry and
Harry Styles as fans of their music…. The band found a new audience.
Transviolet (13 Oct 2015)

In
Oct 2015, we were one of the first to write about the band on their first national tour, “Los Angeles' Transviolet, a four-piece pop band featuring singer Sarah McTaggart, guitarist Judah McCarthy, bass player Mike Panek and drummer Jon Garcia. The brand new band was very, very eager to be on their very first national tour (with the Triple Rock as their first venue in Minneapolis). Based on their bright sound and love for performing live music, this band will be on the road to bigger, better things.”
Roy English, aka
Jagwar Twin will open. He is touring in support of his sophomore album
33, which was produced by long-time collaborator, the GRAMMY-nominated Matthew Pauling (Twenty One Pilots, 5 Seconds of Summer).

first-avenue.com
Los Angeles, by-way-of New Jersey, singer-songwriter and producer
Sam MacPherson is on his first headlining “Powerlines Tour” … and he’ll stop by the 7th Street Entry on April 29th.
Named one of the top New Jersey artist to watch in 2023, MacPherson previously opened for Chelsea Cutler and The Brook & The Bluff, and collaborated with Stephen Sanchez, Jonah Kagen, Garrett Nash, VINCINT, and Quinn Lewis, among others.
MacPherson’s forthcoming project is slated for release later this year via Elektra Entertainment.
Los Angeles based alt-folk singer-songwriter
Mikey Ferrari to open. He recently singed to Neon Gold Records (HAIM, Matt Maeson, et. al) to release “Crash Course” from upcoming
Stories From Montana EP.
Ferrari adds details on the song, “Last year [when it] was a particularly dark time for me. I was living out of my car, sleeping on various friends’ couches while I was writing and recording this project. I felt like I was doing so much and was so busy but at the same time had lost track and feeling of myself and my identity despite unpacking so much of the baggage of years prior. The song is about states of depression and trauma I’ve experienced and how I’ve really questioned if I was really living a life or just inhabiting my own body. A year later I am so happy to be in a different place than I was. I am very grateful to be able to say that.”
