Destination: Republic New Orleans.
Live Band: Yeasayer.
On a nice cool Friday night, three friends and I headed to the Yeasayer show at the Republic in New Orleans, Louisiana. The first thing we saw outside the venue was a line of about 500 people! So we grab drinks at a cheap bar and hop in line. Luckily, friends were able to get tickets to the sold-out show by standing in the will call line (on accident). After getting in, we unfortunately missed the opener Daedelus, so we left again to get cheaper drinks and enjoy some fresh air awaiting the Brooklyn rockers.
As soon as we heard Yeasayer's bass from outside we raced in with our blue wristbands and stormed through the crowd. Talk about an insane light show! Wow. New York bands always seem to have a great stage presence.
Yeasayer broke into two songs right away from their new album Fragrant World, released on August 21st, via Secretly Canadian. It took us about four songs to push our way into the middle of the pack to get a nice front center view. Once we did that's when the dance party started. Sweating profusely, dancing with a gorgeous girl made for quite a fun evening. Yeasayer sure brings the punch and delivers dueling vocals from both frontmen. Very Brian Eno like mixed with new wave, would best describe Yeasayer live performance. Tons of energy on stage mixed with crazy light show, equaled dance party.
Favorite track of the night had to be "Ambling Alp." And come on guys, they played a four-song encore! About half the set was from the new record.
P.S. Here's what they tweeted before the show :

NEW ORLEANS: our last show in your enchanting city was the loudest crowd we'd ever played to in a club...let's top it TONIGHT at Republic!
I think it helped!
